That is horrifying! I can't even imagine that such a thing could happen :( Island Mamma said:
A friend of mine was incarcerated and they made her cut her hair too! She was so humiliated, it was a buzz cut. Despicable practice.

Welcome and I thank you for your service! You really don't need anyone to help you if you just go natural. Go swim in the ocean and stop combing and conditioning and everything will happen on it's own :)

I told my mom today

General Talk

That's great that she defends you! That's how it should be! In my family I knew I might get comments since my hair has always been so long. My mom had cancer when I was very little so she cut all my hair off since she was unable to care for it. Then she was so distraught that she never let me cut my hair again. As an adult I have cut my hair to my shoulders a few times, but I always hated it and grew it back. So the dreads might not go over well with everyone since it's a pretty big change, but at least my mom didn't say anything negative.

General Talk

LOL!!! Ah! That's funny. I don't think she would have known how to respond to that! soaringeagle said:

I told my mom today

General Talk

I wasn't going to tell my family I was dreading until I saw them, but I decided to tell my mom on the phone since I was so excited. She cracked me up. My mom is nearly 70 and she is very innocent and naive so her response was comical. First she asked me if I was going to get spiders in my hair and then she asked me if I thought I was still a teenager. LOL! I assured her there would be no spiders and that I was still washing my hair every other day so no one would get a chance to nest there :)

Natural vs. T&R

Dreading Methods

The quirky ones are definitely my favorite. They just feel really cool and I like the way the hair reminds me of little snakes :)

Natural vs. T&R

Dreading Methods

These pics are terrible since I was taking them in the dark and trying to aim at the back of my head. But you can still get the gist. I see a lot of q's about natural vs. T&R and since I am doing a combo the differences are easy to spot so I thought I'd share. The natural dreads completely take on a life of their own and they are all unique and quirky. The t&r are much straighter with fewer original traits. They are both developing at about the same pace though it seems.

contemplement and conscious

General Talk

I totally agree that I am a strong believer in science and also spiritual w/ nature. I am having a hard time with religion since my personal beliefs do not match how I was brought up. Lisa McRae said:
I got that too, but that makes no sense... I'm a strong believer in science. Hell, I'll even go as far to say scientists have the most important job on the planet in my opinion. but I'm also spiritual with nature, and those things do not contradict one another. I think I'm done with this conversation, Maybe I'm stupid I don't know. I'm just not getting it lol

I understand what he's saying although it's kind of difficult. He's saying that he likes science and that he understands SE's view but it's not perfect. But then again neither is his view so I choose to ignore it. =) He's relating nature to conscience and science to understanding. I don't really get what he's aiming at here...I think he is basically saying that science is right, evolution is right and natural spirituality is somewhat wrong. Ah, whatever. =)
