Washing, tips, rubber bands, and roots?

General Questions

Hi! definitely get rid of the rubber bands they hinder movement and restrict the real dreading, the Most amount of times you should ever backcomb is once! Clockwise rubbing is pointless for sue. You've only just started your journey and at 1 week you don't have dreads yet you have a rough outline of where they will be once the real locking begins so relax and enjoy the ride it's a long process. I recommend the BS/ACV wash & Maylee's garden soaps. But you should try whatever you want to and see what works best for you. :o)

Dread Maintenance

I get what you're saying Peaceful. I don't believe that everyone who promotes a harmful dreading technique is intentionally trying to screw us over. I believe that many are simply misinformed and uneducated. It's unfortunate but we see it here a lot as well people were simply given bad advice and then passed it on as truth. It doesn't make it any better but the intent isn't always malicious. Peaceful Dread said:
hehe... I can see how stupid it looks. I know I wrote it like that, but I did not mean to make that connection. I meant that they where taught to do it like that in Uganda.. and the woman even had it herself. So I have no reason to believe that she intentionally wanted to destroy my hair in order to make money.

That was done to my dreads once, but they have recovered now. And I don't know about the vanity part of it, I never looked worse in my life than after that treatment. And it took about 6 months for my dreads to recover.

But I don't feel that those ppl fooled me. The man and the woman that tried to help me where hairdressers from Uganda and I am sure that their true intention was to help me.

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

nah I think everybody should do whatever the hell they want with their dreads or non dreads! I know a couple of girls with dreads and side cuts that look hot as HELL ! What you're saying is exactly what most people with straight hair say about us. Who cares?

dreading the 1st few weeks of dreading

Dreading Methods

i have to admit that the whole worrying about my dreads thing kind of puzzles me a bit. When i started my first set of dreads 10 years ago, i (or anyone i knew) had never heard of creating dreads with a "technique". It was simply about not having to think/worry about your hair. I'm sure SE can attest to that even better than I! It was just natural beauty that came about by doing nothing. I truly believe all this panic was born from companies like KBoy & DHHQ to sell needless products. Selling people this image of "perfect dreads" like there even is such a thing! I feel bad when i see people freaking out over their hair because it seems their missing the point a bit? I'm not judging, i just wish they could see the beauty in letting go and not worrying so much about their hair. It will be as it is meant to, not like anyone elses, like you OWN! I wish everybody would stop trying to DO something to fix a problem that's not there. That's what creates the actual problem in the end. Many Blessings
