why are you against johnny cleans methods and products

Dread Products

Okay, here is my official two cents on this whole thread.I DO like DHHQ products... okay... well SOME of them. I like my Dread Soap.... for the sake of convenience. However, I know that it has SLES in it, which can be irritating to the scalp, so when I run out I'm not sure I'll buy more. If I'm feeling too lazy to make my own dread wash/rinse I can just pull out the bottle of soap and lather up like regular shampoo.I also LOVE Lock Peppa. Yes, it does in effect 'dirty' the hair to make it knot AND washes out in one wash. However, from the time you use it to the time you wash it holds the hair in place to encourage it to lock in the position you've placed it in, similarly to how wax is supposed to work (in theory).I, however, DON'T like wax, and I totally agree that Jonny Clean has made a business of taking common household and craft items and repackaged them to be specifically for dreadlocks, which is frustrating at best. The longer I have my own dreads and work with others' dreads the more it irritates me, too, that he does not present both sides of the story or even make clear that there is more than one way to create dreads. I make it a strong effort to present all sides and allow clients to make their own informed decisions (via my website and blog -- which I will post if asked, but I don't want to come off as spamming the board!).Dreadlock products cost money, but dreadlocks are free. :-)

Home-made Dread Shampoo Bars

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

This site has a lot of really good information :-) http://www.soap-making-essentials.com/soap-making-supplies.html And hemp oil is actually one of the 'oilier' base oils. :-)

Home-made Dread Shampoo Bars

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I am working on acquiring all the equipment so I can start ma=king my own dread soap. However, to make cold-pressed soap (which is the method I'll be using) you --have-- to use fixed oils as part of the recipe. There are, in soap making, certain oils that are LESS oily than others and better suited for people with oily hair (or dreadlocks). Coconut oil is one of the less oily choices. I was wondering if there are any other soap makers out there who can lend their advice as far as other fixed oils that are better suited for use with dreadlocks?

residue free dreadlocks shampoo bar all natural vegan biodegradable review

Dread Products

I received a bar of Maylee's Garden soap through a barter on Etsy. She sent me the soap, a roller of the Hippie Mama fragrance, and a surprise sample of laundry detergent.I LOVED the laundry detergent. It was great having something that smelled so wonderful to use on my cloth diapers. I ran out way too quickly!I am not usually a perfume/body fragrance kind of girl, but the stuff has really grown on me. :-)I see that a LOT of people on here really love her shampoo bars. I was really wary at first to even try it, afraid of it possibly leaving behind residue. Then, I had a client who wanted me to do some dreadlock maintenance for her. While working on her I noticed she had some white, oily residue near the scalp in a lot of her dreads. So, I asked her what she washed her dreads with and she said she only used Maylee's soaps. From there, I was afraid to use it myself. I LOVE the scent (Lavendar and Cedar), so I've been using it as a body soap. If the residue in the client's hair wasn't enough to warn me away, I've found the same white residue in the bottom of my bath tub after showers and on my daughter's bath toys. I recommended to that client (who also LOVED the scent of her shampoo bars) to save it for special occasions.I feel badly being the ONLY person to say anything negative, but my experience with the soaps has made me VERY hesitant to recommend it. I would be happy to discuss this with anyone else or Libby herself, but I know I don't think I'll be using my bar in my dreads.

Alright, so I custom-ordered a glass bead from this awesome lady.... She charges amazingly low prices for her miniature masterpieces so definitely check it out! Ohhh I started setting up a shop on cafepress but it's such a PAIN to work with... I'll have to check out zazzle to see if the user interface is a little friendlier. I am loving this thread. ^_^
