Funny T-Shirts

General Talk

Okay, so I actually got this idea from someone on the DHHQ facebook page, but I thought it would be fun to create to t-shirt designs for dreadheads. I only have two ideas so far but here they are:1) "Yes I DO Wash Them" (probably with a black silhouette of a girl with dreads in the shower... still deciding what image(s) I might want to use with this one)2) "Don't Have to be Tidy to be Beautiful"(probably with a black silhouette of dreads.... I was thinking of asking people to submit images to be be possibly used on this one!)So, yeah! I REALLY want other people to post their ideas and suggestions about what they would love to see on a t-shirt (related to dreadlocks). I thought about posting on the DHHQ page about this but I really don't want to be promoting one business or another by doing this.... just create some fun stuff for dreadheads to wear.I look forward to what people have to suggest!!!Blessings~ Amy

Being Offended. Is it really that bad?

General Talk

No, but in most cases where I am expressing an opinion I realize that it is just that: my opinion. Although I may feel strongly about something, they are entitled to their own opinion. If my logic makes sense to them maybe they'll change their mind and maybe they won't, but it's rare that people change their mind because a point of view is shoved down their throat or they are insulted, LOL. That's just IMHO.Admittedly, it's just not some people's style to 'sugar coat' things. (Although I don't think I would call what I do sugar coating.) Grey and SE come to mind ;-). I think, too, that if an opinion can be backed or supported by some kind of fact it can lessen the blow, so to speak. At least when SE and Grey give answers and responses in their straight-forward, no BS sort of way it's USUALLY support by fact. It's when name-calling and mud-slinging are brought into it that it tends to cause trouble, I think.

Being Offended. Is it really that bad?

General Talk

1)Do you have a fear of being offended?I wouldn't call it *fear*, but I don't think anyone LIKES to be offended. I don't enjoy it by any means, LOL.2) Do you shut them down when you do feel that way?I try very hard not to. A lot of times if someone says something that can be construed as offensive it was not intended to be so. If you can remain level-headed enough to let the person explain themselves, usually everything can be resolved. It's the cases where people seem to be purposely offensive that really rubs me the wrong way.3) Do you think offending people is wrong?Right and wrong are relative to each person. Do I personally think it's wrong? Well, I would answer that I make it a point to not offend people because I think it's possible to express my opinions (regardless of how strong they may be) in a way that is neutral and respectful.4) Is there ever a right way to offend someone?Certainly in some cases no matter how hard you may try to word things as neutrally as possible, a person will be offended by it. In those cases it's usually best to walk away. I am pretty fond of the addage, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all." When voicing an opinion, particularly one I know might not be very popular, I am very careful to word things using 'I' statements. 'I think', or 'I believe' so it can't be misconstrued as me trying to push my beliefs on the person -- just that I am stating them for the record, so to speak. If they still become offended than I feel like I can rest easy knowing that I did my best to prevent it.

Dread Maintenance

They did feel a LITTLE bit like brillo pads at first, LOL. They loosened up since then, though, thankfully. I knew that the Locking Accelerator (or any product with sea salt) can cause dryness and flakes (if you get it on your scalp, which I know you're not supposed to but sometimes happens anyway) so I had been avoiding that. (and YES, I know the DHHQ Lock Accelerator is glorified salt water, but it came in the kit so I'll use it 'till its gone and make my own salt water if I feel like it) I did NOT know that the soap could cause a problem, too. I will have to look more seriously into the BS wash/ACV rinse.Grey - thank you very much for posting what you did. :-) I'm glad you are feeling open enough to post your FULL opinion with me! I am not offended and I see what you're saying. Although, I do think people can have mature, tidy dreads (that resemble what mine did/do). To me maturity is really gauged through the tightness or hardness of the dreads and how much it compressed when squeezed. However, I will DEFINITELY agree that natural locks are very easy to differentiate from 'made' ones, so to speak.

My apologies.... I have been reading your name wrong this whole time. I read as much saying that my dreads looked 'forced' (because technically they were through backcombing, sectioning, etc.), but I couldn't see more than that. I am honestly really curious to know what the rest of your post said. I'd like to think I am more mature than a six-year-old, personally... I know what your viewpoint is on grown vs. made dreads, so I am more than prepared to handle your criticism. I know what I like and you know what you like. :-) It's all good.

Greg.... did you have more written originally? In 'My Page' there is all sorts of text that I can't find in this actual thread...Last night I washed my dreads (with DHHQ Dread Soap) and last night an this morning for some reason my scalp was SUPER itchy... LOL It was like my body was subconsciously angry at me for deciding to stop 'maintaining' my dreads. It made me want to try that shampoo recipe you showed me, SE.
