residue free dreadlocks shampoo bar all natural vegan biodegradable review

Dread Products

I just ordered a couple of shampoo bars and some laundry soap... can't wait to try them, all the smells are just the sort of thing I like. Excited about the laundry soap too since we cloth diaper, I love finding soaps that are residue-free, natural, and smell amazing. Will post back again after i get them, probably next week-ish. I have some shampoos I love love love the scent of, but didn't want to use them on my new dreads and hers have the same oils and scents so it's an awesome find.

Hi!

Introduce Yourself

Hi Bella :)I'm on about just over a month of dreading, and I most definitely agree with the spiritual and cleansing effect letting your hair dread has. It helps so much with being free in your spirit, and letting go of everything negative and unneeded. So much more than just a new "hair style" which is what i thought it would be when I first decided I was finally going to go for it...enjoy your ride!

project for every member

General Talk

I think the postings at the co-ops and stores is a cool idea. What about little blurbs in the back of free local newspapers (You know those ones..) like Willamette Weekly (here) and stuff.

i need biblical references to dreadlocks my church kicked me out for wanting to dread

History and Religious Significance

Sister Rags is right about the controlling aspect! Sometimes events like this in our life are eye-openers into what power we have been allowing others to have over us. In this case, an entire congregation. That is not a loving environment; I wish you some peace. Sister Rags said:
How horrifying that your church has an issue with dreadlocks. I guess now I HAVE heard it all.

Please search all around online, for there is a load of info about Jews and early Christians having dreads. LOADS of info. Read about the Nazarites...just one group.

As for a beard...WTH?!?! The Bible CLEARLY states that every man over the age of 13 should have a beard. Orthodox Jews never shave off their beards, under any circumstances except medical necessity.

But I will be very blunt: Any church that is so controlling is not a spiritually healthy environment. Please take that into serious consideration.

Favorite Place to live...

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

Oh, to be fair to other places, my sister lives in Nevada City CA and loves it there. She's a Yogi and jewelry artist among other things and really likes the local community there in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I haven't been there yet, but the way she describes it, it sounds like a cool little community to live in.

Favorite Place to live...

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

Oregon! Portland is a majorly "green" city, and the overall aspect is very environmental, outdoorsy, and tolerant. Eastern Oregon is more conservative generally, but the coastal range is beautiful, there's high desert, mountains, beautiful waterfalls, valleys, you name it. I grew up in California, lived in WA state, FL, a little bit in Idaho, and we choose Portland for our home because it's got a great vibe for us. Lots to do, indoors and out. Lots of rain granted, but there are definitely four distinct seasons, and that's one reason I love it here.Lots of people like Eugene and Ashland too for the cultures that thrive in those areas, in addition to Portland.Minimum wage is about $8.50 or so I think, housing is costly right in the city (portland), but there's plenty of open land and cool little places to live that are affordable. The city is built in neighborhoods here, so you've got lots of walkability to them, and each part of town has it's own characteristics and grooves. Each is it's own community. Here in Portland there's a huge support for local businesses, eco businesses, local farmers, etc. That's another thing I love about it here. It's very open to different lifestyles and choices.Lots of festivals all over Oregon each year too. Obviously I'm pretty into Oregon, but it's a nice stop along the path of life, that's for sure :)

Shower (hair not dreaded but trying to)

Dread Maintenance

Water itself is drying, and even without dreads, I'd say not to wash every day. I wash my baby dreads about twice a week, and the rest of the time I think it's OK to either just pull your hair up in a pony to keep it mostly out of the way, or just rinse it out with plain water (or spray with a sea salt water a little bit before the shower, then rinse) if you feel like it needs it. I just use my instincts about what's going on with my hair at the time.

Dread Beads.

General Questions

I have some simple wood beads I got to hold together looser hairs on my baby dreads. Just needed something so I ran down to the fabric store. But...I love stone, bone that type of thing. If you feel like going about the beading with a more holistic approach, adding in beads made from stones that have healing, other positive properties, I think that's a really good thing to keep in mind.If I get around to it after all the other things there are to do, I might even start painting my own, or using polymer clay to craft some. Hmm, that might end up being a craft I do tonight now that it's rolling around my brain a little more.

Cutting dreads off

General Talk

I'm glad to see this topic come up because it was one of those thoughts in the back of my mind, for down the road. What happens when I want to cut my hair a little? I usually haven't grown it past my waist too much. It's great to hear experiences from those that have cut their dreads, thanks for the question and the answers!
