Cutting Locks

General Talk

Johnny Clean says to cut the dreads at an angle. I know he's the devil and everything (o_0) but manicured dreads are kind of his profession.

will kirks castile soap work for washing?

General Questions

Nah, I rub the bar right on my scalp. It doesn't take much to do the job. Let me know how your shampoo goes, if you decide to do it.

will kirks castile soap work for washing?

General Questions

I use this stuff on my dreads, and I always follow with a baking soda rinse. I don't think it's conditioning. When I say that, I mean that it doesn't make my hair feel slick. It seems to reduce the slickness in my hair. My locks get tighter after a wash because of the increased friction. Now, I don't know if this is caused by a stripping of oils from the hair, or if it leaves a tacky residue. Anyway, I haven't had any dreads fall apart, and I use Kirks now instead of Dr. B's.

How to rip personality from your dreads

General Talk

You know, I was thinking about doing just that. But then I decided that I don't need to explain, justify, or defend my position regarding MY hair.I doubt I've ever seen such a blatant means of putting ones opponent on the defensive. One problem. You don't have an opponent on this forum. If you think this is a contest of defensible positions, you've missed the point. Nobody should be attacked for their hair, and that's what you've done to every "fake ass" person. You even used quotation marks on "people," as though they are so-called-but-not-really people.Grow your hair your way, leave me to mine. I'll handle no more bile today.

How to rip personality from your dreads

General Talk

IllumiKnotty,How could you possibly believe that *anybody* could be judged by outward appearance alone--even one completely obsessed with the superficial? This is fallacious in the deepest sense, and it is unbelievably presumptuous of you to judge any person's motive. Even the shallowest person has a depth of personality, and a secret mind.I dress like a surfer, but I don't surf. I wear skater shoes, but I don't skate. I love maintaining my dreads and making them look good (my subjective meaning of pleasing aesthetic), so what? Am I a poser? Are my locks fake? Should I stop wearing Vans? Should I starting wearing sweater vests and slacks? You can judge all you want. But you're judging ME.

How to rip personality from your dreads

I don't think he'd get a fair and open debate here. He'd be shouted down. The atmosphere toward him on this forum is obviously hostile.I also have a huge problem with people who think that their reason for growing dreads is the right reason, and anybody who has a different opinion is not the type of person who should be growing dreads. Go start a club. You can have a fort, and a password. That said, Johnny is a hypocrite. He says that people are free to choose, experiment, and find their own dreading journey, which is true. But he only teaches (sells) one path, and makes the others seem illegitimate.

Dreadhead HQ photo gallery

General Talk

I'm having a hard time understanding how someone could cruise that gallery and think "Yes, THIS is what I want my hair to look like! Let me find my credit card."

Does it smell?

Dread Maintenance

My hair smells like it smelled when it was straight and I didn't wash it for a while. The only difference is now I don't have residual perfumes from regular shampoo to add to the scent.

incarceration and washing dreads

Dread Maintenance

Let your hair dread at the roots. You can decide what to do about the tips later, when you have some mature locks holding them to your head.

Visited a loctician....

Dreading Methods

Both of you crazy kids are going to have to learn to ignore each other. The bickering is silly, and it keeps happening.
