Backcombed fresh dreads

Dreading Methods

ok, gonna try to handle all of your questions at once.First off, palm rollings useless without wax (please tell me you didnt use wax). Dont bother with that. Second, dont re backcomb just let your hair do its thing. They will definitely loosen over the next couple weeks and will eventually start to dread and really lock up. Some of them will remain in their holds and others wont. Everyones hair will eventually dread naturally. Chances are if your hair is naturally straight or fine it will unravel alot. If it does i would say go natural or go back and twist and rip the sections that have fallen out.Leave your hair alone for the next couple months. Let them do their thing

I found my dreading method...but???

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

aloe vera smells like CRAP. i would definitely recommend doing this product less soaringeagle said:
aloe is fine just use that be sure u get only 100% pure aloe vera gel; from as health food store sold as a drink or food supliment the only incgrediant aloe and it should be in the refridgerator

if not go to a garden center buy a plant but make sure its aloe VERA as other aloe varierties can be toxic or cause severe skin reac tions ..u just want plasin old aloe vera if u get a plany get the biggest u can, take 1 large leaf cut it off split it the long way scrape out the gel inside the leraf

Shampoo suggestions?

Dread Products

i reccomend bronners. My only problem with the baking soda wash is that it takes 10-30 minutes so if i notice my hairs smelling before school and i need a quick wash, baking soda isnt really an optiondefinitly pick up a bottle of bronners and use baking soda when you can soaringeagle said:
the dreadheadhq and knottyboy shampoos are ok..nit great but they are harmless mostly (except to the envoronment that is) they are the only things those companies do semi well but cause they push wax so hard id boycott them if theyre soaps were the only 1's that worked.

dr bronners 19 in 1 magic soap when diluter 12 times more water then soap is good in most ppl's haoir but with some water types may not rinse well
but is the most environmentaly freindly soap of all (besides the bakingh soda that is)

baking soda ..superiour to all soaps or shampoos but u may miss lathering so ..alternate if u want..
personaly its all i use anymore

lush bars..many ppl love em they smell nice do a decent job, but still contain sls which has been a health concern , possible cancer link and is in many of not most sudsing soaps (not dr bronners) because sls is in so many things u might want to avoid adding more..

nutragena daily clarifying ..suitable especialy for "prep" since it not only is no residue (i think) but strips away built up residues. it can be used a few times to restore hair to untreatted natural state then switch to something else..its not that natural, may contain sls (i dunno foir sure tho) not as environmentaly freindly
so u might wanna just try a small bottle for a week or 2 then switch..

most who try the baking soda never use any shampoo again..its that good

It it really in the genetics?

Dreads in the Family

you should try twist and ripping your hair, thick nappy black hair seems like it would be great with that

Every discussion you will ever have about your dreadlocks

General Talk

problem is they approach me curious about something that im doing. They have preconceived notions about something theyve never done and its impossible to change their mind. Its a lose lose scenario. I can try to tell them something or dispel a myth (read: lie) or i can just shut up and not deal with being called out by people who have no idea what their talking about

Them: So how did you make those things anywayYou: You just stop brushing and combing your hair and it eventually gets like this.Them: Do you wash it *disgusted face*?You: Yeah but thats the only thing you do to it. No combing no brushingThem: Arent you supposed to use __________ (dreadwax, beeswax, eggs, rubber cement, glue, latex, dog shit, plutonium, eye of newt, arsenic, PCP, liquid AIDS)You: Your not supposed to use them, some people do but its bad for the dreads in the long run.Them: Your an idiot.*sigh*no real point to this thread. My Hair Has A Hard Time Growing

Dreads and Diets

ironically my hair got longer with the dreads. My hair was REALLY curly before i dreaded so it only looked about 2 1/2 to 3 inches long. Now that its dreading its getting pulled down to about 6 inches. Nothing like the 8 inches i started with but much longer than it looked before soaringeagle said:
u gotta start somewhere.. and dreads will get shorter before getting longer that cant be avoided. but when they do start to grow theres nothing that will slow the growth like trimming does so they just grow on and on..

if you go natural, the shrinkage and growth tend to almost cancle eachother out or at least be less extreme so it will instead be a period of zero or slow growth before it starts to grow

the sooner u start the quicker u get to the growth stage
shorther hair tends to shrink less too so u get there faster or at least with less length loss

My Hair Has A Hard Time Growing

Dreads and Diets

do you mean length wise or width?you can control the width of the dreads but if your doing it naturally it can be kind of hard to get smaller dreads. How thick do you want them? Sekmet Senge Dong-ma said:
Oh I understand!!! But, I don't want my dreads that to small or too big..
