love and dreads

Life Issues Facing Dreads

I have never been in a relationship with anouther dready. when i was 18, my then bf said 'hell no' to the dread idea. He did not last much longer. a year or so later i started my dreads, was vegetarian, and stopped shaving my legs/pits.I was always surprised at the guys that would want to date me, always preppy, name brand wearing, clean cut people, (not that there is anything wrong with that) just not at all what i was looking for. The exact opposite of what i looked like. Here we are now 10 years later, my man(not a prep nor hippie), is alright with em. I would say he prob liked em more before we were dating, and the whole idea of dating the girl with dreads. Now he gets slapped with em and all kinds of good stuff. (Does anything hurt more than hitting the bridge of your nose with a glass bead on a flailing dread?!) But he has been around for 3 years, deals with me, my dreads, and my vegetarian eating habits. Let's me be me, and lets me raise our child that way. I love him to death for it. :)

share your dreading mistakes so others might avoid the same dreadlock mistakes you made

General Questions

I've skimmed through some responses and decided to chime in...~My first locks where done in a salon, with a dread perm. NEVER NEVER fall for this. I lived in green bay, and someone told me this was a good idea, i musta been high to fall for it. Not only was it backcombed all to hell, they put perm rods in and perm it to stay. (might i add, i PAID for this.) Then i could not wash it for 3 months. I am surprised my hair did not fall out. Surprisingly i kept those locks for over a year.~Never hit a bong and let one fall in your face. It will torch all the way up. Like a sock. Stinks too.If you have done something really dumb to your young dreads, might as well just start over right away. You will be much happier in the long run.
