good or bad idea?

Introduce Yourself

SE is right, any twisting is too much twisting. I know you/re saying that wax was hard to get out, but its imperative that you get it out, cuz it sho as hell aint getting out on its own. Get the wax be gone from that same site i mentioned, apply to each dread, wait 5 minutes or so and rinse out, you'll see all the brown wax shit that comes out. Id hate for you to realize you still have wax in there years down the road, so get it out now while you can. Good luck, one.

yea man im with Tied up. I twisted mine for 6 months and thank God i found this site. I've let them be since, and they've been locking way better without the twisting. Im assuming that with the twisting you used wax, since they go hand in hand. What you gotta do first before using the wash is remove the wax if you indeed used it. From that point you can start your washes. I use baking soda solution with teatree oil, jojoba oil, and jasmine rose oil for scent, i also throw a lil bit of sea salt in there. I also use the apple cider vinegar soak every 3rd baking soda wash. I also bought the dreadlockshampoo.com liquid shampoo, it smells grea, speeds up the locking, and is 100% natural and vegan. I find it convenient to bring the shampoo on trips and stuff instead of lugging all the other shit around. Hope this helps brotha. One.

WHAT IS THIS SITE INTENDED FOR?

General Questions

The site is really intended to enlighten people on anything dreadlocks. People here wont bash you if you go with a crochet method or anything like that, what they will try to do however is strongly discourage you from doing so, and with reason. A high percentage of members of this site are people who went with such methods, and then a few months later realized that they had no lock progress and they did nothing but damage their hair. A lot of folks come in asking for help to save their locks, some of them are loaded with wax, some of them see no real advancement, and some of them are even loosing their hair. This site is really about educating folks about dreadlocks with a strong emphasis on the natural/neglect method. I happen to be one of those who went to a locktician and used wax and 6 months of getting them twisted and being told not to wash them is when i said enough is enough and said something was wrong about that, thats when i found this site, and after removing all the wax that was used, and washing my hair 2 to 3 times a week, my went into lock overdrive and its almost fully locked in only 2 months. They're gonna also remind you and encourage you that REAL dreadlocks take time, and are messy for a period of time and to embrace that stage, because the very idea of dreadllocks is to let them be what they want to be, not force them into being uniform and all the same size and without frizz. At the end of the day, all of us are grown men and women and will do whatever we want to do, but if i can tell you from personal experience, i wish i woulda found this site before i went to a locktician, so i coulda went completely neglect. After wasting over 400 bucks in retwisting visits and not washing my hair, i realized the mistake i made. Now i wash my hair twice a week with basic supermaket items like baking soda sea salt and a few essential oils, and only separate them after washes and the development is undeniable. Just go through the help! save my dreads section, and it should be enough to send you running away from lockticians.

if theyre annoying to look at then dont look! you dont see progress because youre micro examining each little hair every time you walk by a mirror. Its a long process that takes time, but once they reach maturity, they'll be like that forever. Stay away from wax, please please stay away from wax, they'll be in your dreads FOREVER. If you want to straighten them out, go to dreadlockshampoo.com and look up the locking gel, it works just like regular gel, keeping the form and the frizz down, but its made with 100% natural and vegan products, and will wash out every single time you wash your dreads, unlike anything else that'll leave residue. You can also use 100% food grade aloe vera in the frdge section of a supermarket or the aloe vera leaf itself, i've never actually found it myself, so i use the locking gel. Works like a charm, i only use it for weddings and special events, i happen to love how my dreads have a mind of their own, and enjoy the process.

how to start my dreads

Introduce Yourself

And fyi, i started my dreads very short, about 3 inches, unfortunately i used wax, but you have the chance to start off the right way, with the neglect method, im also mulatto, so my hair is nappy/curly. Your hair will dread, just have patience. I went from an afro, to what you see now, and its been only 8 months.

For a different shampoo optrion, go to dreadlockshampoo.com, and pick up the liquid lockin up shampoo, they help your hair lock, and already have all the stuff you need in it, and are 100% natual and vegan. I've personally never used Dr Bronners liquid soap, but i've spoken to a few folks and read here, that some of them have had issues with build up and residue, which i've never heard with the dreadlockshampoo site. Just another idea, maybe you can get both and see what works, good lock brotha, and awesome name btw, its the name i chose for my son. One.

Let's Get Personal

General Talk

Well I started my dreads initially for the simple gave that I've always loved them, and swore that as soon as I reached a place in my life where I was set emotionally and professionally I would give it a go. The fact that I started them the month my daughter was born was a coincidence but took a meaning of its own. now my dreads and my daughter are the same age n will grow together hopefully until the rest of my days. finally, I feel as though lately it has taken a spiritual connotation as well, as I read in this site, my dreads seem to also be growing into my brain, allowing me to see things differently and think differently as well, perhaps questioning some things that I wouldn't have before. overall, I'm extremely happy with my choice, n will not only have dreads but BE a dread for life.

dread wax isnt as bad as you say, or is it worse then anyone really knows?

Dread Products

Its as simple as this, people dont be fucking idiots. If not for the horror stories, avoid wax just for the simple fact that your hair won't dread with wax! I had wax in mine for 6 months and only the tips dreaded, i used wax-be-gone for 3 weeks in a row and now my hair is almost fully dreaded. Just don't be an idiot and avoid wax. There's too much evidence proving wax is bad, dont try to be the exception to the rule, when things are backed by facts they are true, dont be fooled by the locticians and dreadheadhq's of the world.

Peace
