Dread splitting help

About two months in I combed out a large dread on the side of my head and redid twist and rip on them. I made 3 out of the 1. They still matured at the same rate as the rest of my hair. Now at 13 months, I split one last week on the other side by using only one side of scissors/ripping. Like Taye, mine didn't come out perfect either. There isn't as much control. I agree with her to comb out & resection the too big areas that way. In the scheme of things, it won't set you back a ton.
