sewing...?

Dread Maintenance

Well, if you want to quit twisting, maybe try a hobby that has you using your hands? Something like crochet or knitting is very hands on and portable, so you could keep it with you. Or maybe a stress ball or small trinket like you mentioned the hearts are like. Best of luck!

Natural birth control...

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

Sounds like we have almost parallel lives! I'm also in school, 2 jobs, no kids yet, and planning to go off the pill next month. I'm going to check out some books at the library and study up. I'll let you know if I find a useful book!

My hair literally won't grow!

Help! Save My Dreads

Some of your stalled progress could be that they are shrinking still. You can research biotin rich foods. I felt like once I stopped doing so much to my hair, it grew faster than ever. Try to leave it alone and use minimal products.

Thinking of starting over

Help! Save My Dreads

I'm at 19 months now, and I still have a bunch of loose hair. I get asked a lot if I combed out my dreads. :P People are used to instadreads. I also have the medallions. Only just in the last few months have some of my dreads matured. Today a friend picked one out and said, "now that is a legit dread!". I guess my point is that it takes time, and some longer than others. Just like the bumps and loops, the medallions will get sucked in eventually. You can combine dreads, comb out the tips, wrap them, or wear bandanas if you're wanting to disguise or change them.

Dreads look like they are filled with dirt...

Help! Save My Dreads

I'm not an expert in this so I will leave the advice to others. I just wanted to apologize for the rude comment you received. Totally uncalled for by that guy. The majority of us have constructive things to say and truly want to help when we can. :) Best of luck to you!

dreaddy family in need of all sorts of advice

Help! Save My Dreads

I don't know anything about lice but I have seen a few posts on that around here if you want to do a search.I do want to note that when you do your baking soda wash, rinse it out completely before applying the apple cider vinegar. The bubbly/foamy reaction is not the kind you want on your scalp. Doing BS then ACV separately helps to restore the PH balance on your scalp. Washing regularly (1-2x a week) will help the dreading process too, as oily/greasy hair is too slippery to knot. Good luck!

Natural persecution

Introduce Yourself

I haven't gotten many negative comments on my hair, but once in a while I do on my tattoos. I just smile and say politely, "you don't have to like it". In the end it's our choice to allow those words to bother us or not.
