Separating Questions

General Questions

Thank you so much for your response! I've had my dreads for three months now. I do want to take the beads out, but I don't have any wraps to replace them with. I'll take them out today and see how it goes :)
I'd rather have thinner dreads personally. I guess I'll just have to keep separating like crazy haha!

Separating Questions

General Questions

Hello :)

I was wondering, is it okay if my separating is not perfect? I separate every day, often with olive oil. I do make some progress, but usually the dreads are still attached a little bit. It's very difficult for me to separate the dreads in the back, as I cannot see them. I'm worried that I'll end up having huge dreads, and feel like separating should not be this hard.

Also, my dreads are beginning to get thicker and the beads are too small for most of them (compared to the size of the dreads above the bead). I'm afraid to take them out because they prevent a lot of congos. Should I take the beads out anyway?
Thank you!

What is Twisting? (Preventing Damage Questions)

Dread Maintenance

Hello!

I just read SE's post on preventing dreads from thinning and breaking. One of the things to avoid is twisting. I'm sorry if it's really obvious, but what is twisting? I want to make sure that I'm not doing it! :)

Also, my baby dreads are trying to congo constantly, so I have one bead on almost every dread. I don't have that many sizes, so some may be a little tight. Could this cause damage? I tried wearing them every other day, but it was too time consuming taking them out and putting them back on.

Thank you!

Bobby Pins, Ponytails, Hair Clips?

General Questions

Thank you both so much!

I will definitely start wearing them down most of the day, and maybe wear a bandanna. The urge to use a clip to pull back my bangs is so strong though; I get a lot of zits when they're down :p

Bobby Pins, Ponytails, Hair Clips?

General Questions

Hey everyone!

I exercise often, and my baby dreads often look a bit gross, so I pull them back a lot; up in a ponytail with bobby pins, or down with a few hair clips to keep the hair out of my face. I also wear them in braids, and wear flower headbands (the kind that go around your forehead, think hippie headbands).

I was wondering if this will hinder the dreading process? If so, what are some alternative that I could do to keep them out of my face? Thank you so much!

Acne due to dreads?

General Questions

Thank you all so much!
Interesting about the acv, maybe that's apart of the reason. Never even thought of that!
I am tying my hair back everyday now :) I never wear hats, but occasionally flower headbands that go around my forehead. Only a few time though.
Perhaps my skin is just getting used to the change in washing my hair(:

My friend also uses her soap on her dreads, and we both think that they've never felt this amazing! (:
I wanted to buy the soap from dreadlockshampoo, but I don't have a job and so can't :p They sound wonderful though!

Acne due to dreads?

General Questions

I use the baking soda/acv wash.
I've had a lot more dandruff since starting the dreading process, and wonder if that could be why I am getting zits? I just used my friend's homemade soap bar made of all natural ingredients, and I noticed that I don't have dandruff or itchiness so maybe the acne will go away with it :)

Thank you so much! Maybe I do have a topical alergy. I will definitely try the teatree oil(:
Wishing you a beautiful day!

Acne due to dreads?

General Questions

Hey everyone!

I think my baby dreads are forming pretty well, thanks to all of your help! :)
However, I used to rarely get zits and now I have a lot on my forehead, and my temples. They are dry and flaky; they scab and then the scabs fall off and I'm so worried I'm going to have scars. .I haven't used any wax or product. I have had my baby dreads for almost two months, and I have had the zits for about a month and a half. I am wondering if this is normal and will calm down as my dreads mature maybe?
