Fat Little Dridlock!

Help! Save My Dreads

I have one too. Mine literally looks like a looks like a mangled hand with two fingers, right on the back, bottom part of my head. Its actually one of my hardest dreads. Over time most loops and zags work themselves out a little, and with most of yours that will be the case. But in some cases like our there are a few runts that are so deformed they are usually here to stay. I actually really like mine, it looks so different and bizarre, it makes it my own. Be proud of your odd shaped root! if its hard and healthy, its doing what it wants to do! If you have notice others growing like it you can use beads and separating to help guide it, but that's about it.

Scared..

General Talk

FEAR or LOVE. you pick. To keagan-You can make general plans for yourself, but if your going to a gathering your gonna have to get used to being happy and content in the moment with what you have. When you need to do something, you do it. Live in the moment and quit letting the future and past manipulate your present moment. Ashely- anxiety sucks. But you either beat it, and realize what you've been scared of is a feather bed, or you let it cripple you and lock yourself inside with fear. Dont let it cripple you. You are better than that. ---One love brothers and sisters.

How do I fix this dread?

Dread Maintenance

Barrellady is right about getting it wet. Hair rips MUCH easier when it is wet. That's why most people do their separating when they are in the shower.

Starting a mess im thinking??

Dread Maintenance

Its fine to stay in your hair for a few days. You want to make sure to keep an eye on your hair, because the sea salt spray can dry it out really bad, and kinda hurt your hair. If you live in a humid area, it will help a lot. If you live in a really dry area, take it easy, maybe not even at all. Jamaicans and people who live by the beach have it really nice, because its both humid and salty area, which helps speed up the process a ton. But yeah just keep an eye on it, if it starts to get too dry, just wash it out and try a little less. Good luck! and keep in mind time is the only thing thats gonna get em tight and mature.

Dread Maintenance

honestly those look good for 4 week old dreads. and yes the backcombing is mostly likely the reason they stick up. I backcombed mine to, and after about 4 months they are starting to tighten up a little, while laying down flatter at the same time. I would recommend a tam as well if you dont like how the headband makes them stick up. But sleeping on them is the main thing that is going to cause them to dread, so dont worry about the headband too much. But yeah, their still baby dreads, and your going to be dealing with a lot of loose-ness and frizz. Theres nothing you can really do about that. They will certainly tighten up though in 5 months or so. A salt water spray will definatley speed up that process a little. Good Luck

One Month Later...

Dread Maintenance

the "dread-friendly shampoo" is most important.

also remember to separate as needed

As for the tangling...that's good! that's progress. dreads go through stages of tangling and looping, where they really do their own thing. After many months, these loops and zags end up shrinking the the dread, however it becomes tighter and more 'ropelike' looking. Check out peoples photos from the beginning of their dread journey to around the 1 year mark on this website and youl see what I am talking about. Good Luck!

White Build Up

Help! Save My Dreads

I had the exact same thing. I thought it was left over shampoo in my hair at first, because I would really notice it once I got out of the shower. Turned out, it was left over wax in my hair. Once I got the wax out of my hair completely, I never noticed it again. I'm willing to bet you have the exact same situation. Use a treatment listed on this website to get the wax out, and let me know if its still there. Good luck.
