The unintentional serial dreadlocker needs some advice!

Dreading Methods

You hair will lock up much faster with a 'dread-friendly' shampoo. The residue free aspect is also important, if you have straight hair the residues just wash out...with dreadlocks they dont. Thats why we dread heads we a residue free shampoo. I, and many other members of this site use this... http://shop.dreadlockshampoo.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPat... you can either use the liquid or the bar soaps (you just have to work a little harder to get it to foam up. These are all natural soaps, just like you want. Your progress will also speed up a lot, because all the moisturizing/ conditioning agents, found in normal shampoo, actually prevent your hair from knotting (which is what you want unless you have dreads). They also have a great pink sea salt spray that has worked well for me and and many other members.

As for the separating, its probably going to be difficult, if not painful even, initially, since you havent done it yet. You literally just rip your hair into sections, by grabbing one lock, annd ripping it apart from the other. Some find this easier to do in the shower, others when their hair is dry. Obviously if you want small dreads, your going to have to separate them smaller, and if you want them bigger, separate bigger. Keep in mind the smaller you separate, the more work your going to have separating them. You should do this as much as you need to, to keep them from knotting together.

Other than that, you can just leave your hair alone! It will most likely take around a year for your hair to be looking like mature dreads (maybe sooner considering the speed you say your hair knots). Good Luck! If you can maintain the patience needed to go through this process, you will be very happy with your results.

on the bright side, if you cant feel it when you touch your dreads, then he didnt over do it. So it will be a lot easier to get out, and you should be able to get all of it out after a few dawn washes

its essentially just glues it in place. Which can look alright at first, but you once its taken out the dreads will just look like they did the first day.

^ yeah if wax was used, which salons always seem to do, you need to get the wax out or your hair will not 'dread' at all. almost zero progress can be made from the day you put wax in.

Well in that case twisting will do absolutely nothing for. White people don't twist. You can just leave that backcombed hair in and just let it do its thing. Thats what I did. They will look a little straighter than natural dreads, but they will still have some character. But yeah, all you need to do is wash 1-3 times a week with a 'dread-friendly' shampoo, and seperate as needed. A little sea salt water will help every once in a while too. But thats all, anything else will just damage hair and prevent progress. Good luck

I assume you are african american or have very curly hair because of the twisting. The above response was correct. Here is a good video showing this is the case.

Root Splitting Help

Dread Maintenance

a bead would work as well, but its hard sometimes because when its at the root, you willl end up sleeping with the bead pressed against your head.

Root Splitting Help

Dread Maintenance

I actually had this same issue....

if you posted a picture that would be best. But most likely, unless you REALLY forced the sections and they are extremely far apart, it will dread naturally. Your only at two months so you wouldn't see any change for another 5 months or so probably.

I backcombed my hair as well. There were a few that I wanted bigger dreads, so I took two small ones apart and dreaded them together. The roots split, but not the lower part of the dread. What I did, was take a small dread rubber band, and wrap it around the root where it was splitting. NOT TOO TIGHT. just tight enough that it wont slide down your dreadlock. After leaving it on for about a month, this fixed the problem for me, and the split dreaded together.
