sections combining at the root! What to do??

Dread Maintenance

Have you all had any sections of your dreads combine?

Ive got a few sections that were made sloppily and they are trying to congo at the root. pulling them apart doesnt solve the problem that she sections are grown together. It just separates them up the dread but the root is still conjoined so i have to continuously pull them apart. Its like having one dread that has hair coming into it from two different sections, or one section of hair producing two different dreads im not sure which one. lol all i know is that my sections are not clean and i feel like i have a truly matted mess of hair on my scalp that just happens to have about 4-5 dreads coming out of it. I have thought about using a rat tail comb to create more defined sections but am partly lazy and partly afraid to undue progress. I really don't like the feeling of my hair creating a net on my scalp and prefer the feeling of having clean sections like the way most of mine are. If i leave it alone will I have to constantly seperate them from one another? I know that there should be hair between the dreads but can it be excessive? What should i do???

Have any of you had this problem and solved it and if so how??

Thanks

Baby dreads... Extensions?

Dread Accessories

I would wait till your dreads are more mature. SInce your dreads look really young, i bet it would be hard to make the extensions blend into your hair without looking obviously like extensions. Ive heard extension hair dreads really fast so the bottom half of your dreads could be really dreaded while the top reamains the same... IDK.. I had extensions at one point, and am contemplating adding some again. but its so much work! I may just be lazy and patient.

Animal Lover

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I dont think that it is wrong to be a vegetarian. I personally eat meat daily for my own reasons. However I was an agricultural major in college and i take a different approach to this debate. I see animals as put here on earth to advance humans. I dont think that we are destroying animals by eating them, we are simply utilzing a resource that we have avaialabe to us. If we dont eat them what would we do with them? Cows out roaming the wild? They would be mauled by predators. Pigs have been a nusience species for years, destroying crops and injurying other animals. Try growing enough plants to feed the world with wild pigs destroying everything. Our world is faced with hunger everyday in every place. Why would we do away with a perfectly viable of source of nutrition and let people go hungry? obviously we struggle to produce enough vegtable crops worldwide to feed the world. Animals help to bridge that gap. I think animals should be treated with compassion, but not as humans. You don't see lions eating grass because they feel bad for the wilderbeasts... were at the top of the food chain. Thought i would input my opinion because there is no one playing devils advocate in this thread from what i could tell. No disrespect or malice intended.

how much do dreadlocks cost? the answer may surprise you

Dreading Methods

Lets see things i have bought to start my dreads...

a plastic comb at one point. $.25

some rubber bands $.50

I bought some aloe vera that i never use. 8$

I tried some different gels while i was still trying to twist them. $1

and Ive purchased a few boxes of baking soda $5

and ive bought apple cider vinegar once. $4

I also bought a tam i never wear because it fits so poorly. $18

All in all ive spent about $40 bucks mostly all spent while i was trying different methods and determining which one i thought would be right for me. now, almost 4 months in i would say that i hardly spend more than $5 a month keeping them clean.

and i love it cuz its so damn cheap!!!

:)

Dreads and Liquid dish Detergent

Dread Maintenance

I was actually not adding any water to dilute it at all! :P I was just putting it straight onto my hair. diluting it seems like a pretty solid idea. lol Boiling the water also sounds like a solid idea but i live in a dorm.. we dont have stoves. but i will probably switch to b-acv washes once i return home. If the water doesnt rinse it well i will try the boiling thing. Man i rinse my hair completely wet everytime i take a shower with just warm water. Its the only way i can get my hair from sticking flat to the side of my head when wake up in the morning. it makes my hair kind of straight while it is wet but by the time it drys back up it is virtually exactly the same as before i rinse it. I figured the break down of oils would be a good thing to get out whatever residue was in there. I had been using jamican lime and mango which i found out isnt the best soap to use.

Dreads and Liquid dish Detergent

Dread Maintenance

I have been washing my hair with dishwashing soap for the past few weeks. Just the typical dawn dishwashing soap. I am mixed and i suppose my hair is prone to becoming dry. I have noticed it becoming pretty dry after a few weeks of use. Today i conditioned it with a ACV rinse after i washed it. I live in an area with very hard water so i dont like to use baking soda at least until i return to my hometown. Do you guys think that washing with dish soap is a bad idea? What would you recommend using in an area with hard water? I dont have money to order dreadlocksshampoo although i hopefully will be able to afford it once i get into my summer break.Let me know what you guys think. I have seen no major issues with using it so far im just worried that using it for an extended period of time could lead to problems. lol im fairly poor and ive even been using it as a bodywash. lol

Thin root, thicker dread. should I worry?

Help! Save My Dreads

Ive got the same thing going on with one of my dreads. It is also one of mine that is denser or further along than all the rest. Let me know what you find out. These guys are fairly smart. I think itll be fine if its just doing it on its own. I bet over time the root will thicken up. But im at 3mo too. I dont know for sure. lol
