How do dreads grow?

Hey all!I've had my dreads for 13 months now, and I see the growth, but I just don't know HOW! How does the hair continually become knotted, even without maintenance? I haven't done shattt with my dreads for about 10 of my 13 months, except wash, and dye. No maintenance what so ever. whell hair growshair in dreads comes outta the dread in chaotic directions so it just automaticly dreads because they arent in straight perfect order it is all uneven which loops em all around eachother

That's so bad ass. Hah, thanks SE, I couldn't figure it out.A friend of mine was commenting on "loose hair from the roots". I still cant figure out how taking baths helps in tighening...For the past 1 and half month I have been doing BS/ACV wash...and from 1.5inch of undreaded hair at the roots I have around 0.5 inch...its magic i tell you...and you kids watch wayyy too much anime...get into tentacle porn...its the new "dreadwax"

I think the whole separating thing might affect them to, when you think about having to constantly pull them apart at the roots from sleeping on them and all that, cool to see how yours have come along man, looks cool

washing i think its a combo of factorswater moving hair around but thats minor oils being removed and cuticles open then close so the hair 1st becomes barbed then pulls back in smooth i can see how the barbs can grab eachother and pull hairs together as they dryim not sure but i can picture the mechanics of ot so that makes it probably true

Referring to me?If so, my hair was 14-16 inches long. (:And as for how washing tightens dreads, it's a process of things.But mainly the hair expands when wet, like a sponge, then dries, and shrivels.The process repeated will result in tightening of the dreads. Hair is magical stuff My parents still can't understand that hair dreads on it's own. They still ask when Iim gonna get them fixed up because the say of you do nothing nothing happens... I have given up on trying to explain it to them .. It's pointless :P
