So my son has had dreads for a little over three months. I have been using Beeswax the entire time until, thank the creator, I found this site. I decided that I am going to blog my wax removal processes since this seems to be such a hot topic. I have some ideas of my own that I am going to try first.
I am about to begin my first method: a hot flat iron and newspaper. I haven't seen or heard of this being done before I just thought about it and it seems reasonable. Plus, I have everything I need and don't have to worry about burning his scalp with boiling water.
Will post pictures and how well it worked shortly.

Hey guys! firstly i am so happy i came across this site! looks like gr8 information and more importantly the truth.
Ok well I have been doing the neglect method journey for a year now. For the first 6 months i didn't wash (because tons of people i know people never washed and have awesome and very clean looking locks), but i started to get really bad dandruff problems. After the 6 months i tried out the dreadhq shampoo, hoping that would get my locks nice and clean but that just made me get more dandruff! I'm never using dreadhq stuff ever again. After that I tried the baking soda rinse of 1 part baking soda to 9 parts water or something like that, but that didn't really help. Maybe i was doing it wrong or something i'm not sure. I am willing to try the baking soda rinse and vinegar again, because i do think i may of been doing it wrong. Now I am using dr bronners magic soap twice a week and using honey spray occasionally. My dandruff has gotten better than what it was i think but it's still there and i'm also getting skin flaking from my face/forehand and ears and i think that flakes off into some of my dreads also. So yeh when i take a good look and my dreads most of them have dandruff/dead skin in them and just white build up. A couple even have wat looks like green build up.
I am wondering wat you guys recommend i do to get rid of the scalp dandruff, the face dead skin flaking, and the dandruff/dead skin/white and green build up inside my locks?
Hope you guys can help me out!
Cheers
who knows what the future holds. when i first started dreading, i was unaware of the gravity at which my past mistakes and failures would come barreling back into my life to test me. Having relived a previous mistake that i have to deal with for the rest of my life for the last couple months, and to which i am still getting over right now, i find myself looking for a way to get away from it so that it no longer is an option. it is really easy for me to hate myself for my mistakes the first time around but to make them twice it is even that much more worse. no one ever said this was an easy path. did i even learn anything from the first time around? not really i dont think, not when one habbit is replaced by another, so whats the difference.
ive been thinking a lot lately about going back on the road, i used to drive truck for two years, and back then i had ideas about buying land in new mexico and building on it. thats what i have been thinking about doing these last 24 hours as i have been bed ridden, barely able to support my own weight which isnt much these days. but none the less i believe this to be the best option for me. another chapter of my life is about to end and another is about to begin. at least i know where i dont want to end up.
after leaving this open for several hours, i am now going to hit submit. this was just a vague venting session. sorry to bore you
Time flies! It's been a while since I've updated as baby boy is keeping me very busy! He's 11 months old now and started walking at 10 months. I can't for the life of me remember his name, but I was watching a comedian who said that when you have a baby you basically spend your time saving them from certain death every other minute. Lol, truer words were never spoken..
Anyway, on to the baby dreadies! I'm still a very happy camper, love them. They're actually becoming recognizable as dreads as people have actually asked me questions about them, how I did them, when I started, etc. Pretty cool. Still washing with baking soda and I add a little tea tree oil from time to time as my hair takes a while to dry and I figure it helps keeps the environment healthy and clean. That's all I do! I'm so happy with them and when I look at them now I think - it's amazing how I tried to separate them in the beginning and when they resisted and I finally let them do what they wanted they did a beautiful job. They're really pretty uniform in size. Have I mentioned I can't believe I didn't do this years ago? It's just so right. And with what little time I have on my hands these days I can't imagine having to find time to "do" my hair. I'm proud of them ^_^
I managed to upload pictures as well, they're from today. Thanks for reading.. hope you enjoy!!
So i have 7 months with my dreads and since the first month i've dealing with dandruff problems, i've tried some things like shea butter with olive oil bla bla but nothing seem to help, right now im just using dr brooners shampoo but dandruff NEVER go away!! plz help, also some of my dreads get some kinda white thing when they are wet i have no idea whats that...im thinking it can be the bees wax i used some months ago(worst mistake ever), i was about to cut them off but ill fight one more time and will take any help u can give....
Jah Bless!!!
hey everyone, i currently loop crochet hook my dreds a couple of times a year, just wondering does anybody know how long it will take for my roots to start dredding them selves if i stop this process?
I've been gone for a few days and there are some major changes to meh hair... I first tried not combing, how SE recommended. Then I did a few TNR dreads and finally I had to have my boyfriend brush out my hair that wasn't TNR so now all I have is 5 little babies that I wrapped some hemp to keep from getting lost in my hair. The natural way is not for me, I have lots and lots of thin hairs that are very long and clingy. I had one HUGE beaver tail going on in the back it was bad. I couldn't separate and it was just a big matted rats nest mess. I know I want my dreads to stay arelativelysmall size because I have a small head. So for now I am just going to keep those few babies with the hemp wraps and carry on. I'm not too sure what I am going to do with the rest of my hair but it is still a pain to brush and I hate it but I think I am just going to braid my hair like every night so its not too bad to brush. CRAP I Might try to TNR here and there every now and again....IDK any suggestions??
