My hair shrank for the first 2 years. It just kept getting shorter and shorter. My hair pre-knots was below my waist. Except I did have bangs. By the second year some of my dreads were only 2 inches long although most were a bit longer. By the third year it started growing like crazy. I started taking biotin about that time. Lol I remember all the crazy looks I got during those first few years. Just remember other peoples thoughts are their business and do not let it effect you! and yes, a scarf was my best friend during those years!! Just be sure not to wear it too tight. The more your knots can move, the quicker they will dread!
Thanks again, Taye, for such encouragement. : ) I went out today, with just a scarf holding my dreads back off my face, and...of course, the rest of the babies were haywire all over my head. hahahaha
The man at the recycling place just kinda looked at me and didn't say a word. He usually greets me with a smile. I just held my head up high...climbed back up into my old van, and chugged back down the road for home. haha
I felt proud of myself, and all my little dread babies too. : ) I see changes each day as well. And I can see my length coming back a bit more. For the past year, I have let my hair color grow off, and my length hasn't gotten any longer; even though my hair has grown about 9 to 10 inches.
Instead, my hair has been rejecting the colored strands of hair, and been breaking right off at the ends. Now, it seems like I see no hair shedding anymore, because it is weaving back into my dreads. I love the idea of keeping my hair, whether or not it is attached to my scalp. : )
It was definitely a mess. I remember my friend Wes saying "I don't think dreads are supposed to look like that." Of course now he swears he didn't say it. I just let it do it's thing as I marveled at the daily changes. I still get excited when I find a new baby dread. My favorite dreads are the ones with character Yours are going to be beautiful!
So glad you posted these! I am now in this stage (four months full neglect, with few T & R), and my hair is a big giant mess. : /P Seeing how your dreads have evolved into such lovelies, gives me hope. : )
I know it was crazy Tara :D and this is a tame picture. They were really wilder than this. People don't realize that i didn't just wake up one day with mature dreads lol. They went through all kinds of changes.
