Welcome to the community Sam, you came to the best site to learn all about natural dreading and how to keep them healthy. The dreaducation section at the top of the site has a wealth of information. What did you decide to wash your hair with now? It looks like you live in an area with jsut slightly hard water, if you do, that gives you many options of dread shampoos to use. Enjoy your journey, if you have any questions along the way, please feel free to ask for help.....I can say that the Dreadlockshampoo.com products are by far the best, created by a member on this site too!.....peace

Welcome. After you look through the dreaducation page, take a look at the timeline forums to see what the first few weeks/months will look like

Welcome to the community and to the beginning of your journey. I see you want to start with the twist & rip method, that is the second best way for dreads, free form/ neglect is the best. Before you twist &rip your hair, let them separate into sections all on their own first. You just stop brushing and do wash 2-3 times a week, in a couple of weeks you hair will be in sections without any help from you. Assorted sizes are perfect for dreads, so don't worry if they are not identical in size. If anything is larger than an inch, just divide it into 2 or 3 sections. Using naturally made sections is better for the dreads as your hair wanted to go where it wanted and was not forced to join other hairs that it might not have wanted to.

Doing this first will give you two weeks to learn all about healthy dreading on this site, then you will be ready to go. This post may help you out, lots to read and learn all about T&R : http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/just-starting-out-what-to-expect?xg_source=activity peace
