Welcome. I guess you've heard the rap about why not to use bands. So Welcome, again

They will lock up beautifully, don't you worry. You can use beads instead, just make sure to move them once in awhile so they do not get stuck where they are. Check out some of the timelines by other members who have also done backcombing. Use the search bar near the top left and type in the key words: timelines backcombing...you will get postings from other members and will get to see their journey, so this way you will know what to expect.....Peace

Welcome to the community Michelle. Start off by reading the Dreaducation section at the top of the site for all the healthy information you will need to keep your journey and future dreads happy. I should let you know that the rubber bands should come out right away. They will cause weak point where they are, they will start to melt and get gooey stuff stuck in your sections forever, and they will not allow your strands of hair to move around which is an important part of the sections maturing into dreads.

You are lucky where you live, the water there is soft, so that means you have many choices on what kind of dread shampoo or bar you want to use without any leaving a residue behind.

There is a tattoo group on here that you might be interested in joining: http://www.dreadlockssite.com/group/tattoos

Enjoy your new journey .....Peace

Hey there Clayton, I see you are using the BS wash / ACV rinse. I used this for my entire first year. Do you have the ratios right? 1/2 cup of BS to 5 cups water. Pour over wet head and leave on for 10 minutes minimum. Rinse out well. Mix 1-2 capfuls of ACV to 5 cups of water, pour over head and rinse out right away or within one minute. Leaving it on any longer will over condition the hair.

Be prepared for hair shrinkage, with your length, they will probably end up at your shoulders or neckline, but don't worry, once they shrink they grow fast again....enjoy your journey.....peace
