Welcome to the community Traysee. The great thing about growing dreads is you can set back and not do anything but wash and separate...don't fret about a thing, it will all be good and do the journey on its own without any maintenance....Just enjoy the ride....Peace
Welcome. I have to warn you about palm rolling, though. If you do it daily, or aggressively, it will severely destroy your locks. If you don't do it often, it will not create lasting knots. There's no real middle ground there, unfortunately. It thins out your roots, and makes your locks weaker and weaker. I only did it for the first 2 weeks, and 6 years later I am still trying to fix the damage.
The problem with it too, is that you won't see the damage for a long time. It's not like other harmful techniques like crocheting and interlocking, where you see the harm right away. It takes at least a few months of your hair growing out to see how much it hurt them. Most likely you won't see the damage until your locks are about a yer old and fully mature. The ones you palm rolled will have thin and weak roots.
As for the bands, they cause nothing but trouble. Bands, even if used loosely, are elastic and constrict your locks too much and create weak spots that can cause locks to snap in places. They can also easily get sucked into your locks, where they dry rot and grow mold/mildew in your hair
