Welcome. I don't want to burst your bubble. I know that you're probably extremely excited about your new locks. As well you should be. So don't stop being excited after what I'm about to say...

Wax is only going to destroy your locks. There it's done. That is the most important thing you need to know right now.

Wax does so many thing to destroy locks, I'll only focus of the main problems.

Due to the gooeyness and stickiness of wax, it holds down loops, tangles, and knots. And because all dreadlocks are is a massive accumulation of knots, preventing them, prevents locks. Leaving wax is will delay progress by years-decades. This is because wax won't wash out easily. So even in 10 years, it will still be there, preventing tangling.

Now, I know you're probably thinking that you'll just scrub a bit harder and work to get the wax out. So here's where I'l get a bit scientific for you. It's not that easy to remove wax.

Wax is a hydrocarbon. That means that it is, for all intents and purposes, waterproof. No amount of scalding hot water and normal soap can get it out. But all's not lost. Wax may not react with normal soap to clean it out, but it will react with a detergent. You can get a good tough-on-grease dish soap, or better yet, dreadlockshampoo.com sells an amazing wax remover. The process of getting wax out is long and arduous, But it's possible. You don't use the soap like you'd normally wash your hair. It's a bit more complicated and time consuming. If you need help with explaining it, let me know, or look into the dreaducation page. There's a good explanation there.

So here's the reason to remove wax immediately: Wax causes mold/mildew to grow in your hair. Simple as that. Because your hair is now waterproofed, it won't get cleaned when you wash it. In fact, most of the water from your shower won't even touch your hair at all. But there are little crevices that water will be able to pool into. This happens from your shower, getting stuck in the rain/snow, etc... This water sit there and can't get back out, or dry because no air can get into your locks. This water becomes stagnant, and becomes a breeding ground for mold/mildew and bacteria. In a very short period of time, you will actually be walking around with a virtual swamp on your head. And I don't know where in Fl. you are. But if you've ever been near a swamp, they don't smell very nice. As the mold takes over, it will start to decompose your hair from inside the locks.

As for palm rolling, here's a video of what only 2 weeks of palm rolling can do to your locks. I'll let that speak for itself:

Now that I've probably sufficiently scared you, here's the bad news. Since you're only a few weeks in, it'll probably be better to start over from scratch. I know it sounds terrible. But the aggressive nature that goes into washing out wax will probably undo any tangles you've already started. Get a good clarifying shampoo and conditioner. And brush out your hair and remove any wax or other residue.

The good thing about this, though, is that you can start locking right away, again. There's no reason or need to wait any length of time before starting over.

Good luck. If you have any questions let me know
