Welcome. How are you thinking about starting locks? After you look through the dreaducation page, check out the timeline forums to see what the first few weeks/months will look like.

When people say locks take time, they don't mean weeks. They means months-years. It takes, on average, about a full year to form mature locks

Welcome to the community Cindy. You joined the best site on the web for all your healthy dread information that will get you off to the best start possible. The dreaducation section at the top of the site has great tips for you. The neglect / free form method is the best way to let your dreads form, then the twist & rip method is next. Other methods damage hair to a degree. What ever you decide to do, let your hair separate into sections naturally first. This will take a couple of weeks. So guess what, you can start that today by not brushing anymore, washing 2-3 times a week with a dread shampoo and your hair will magically form into sections that will be your future dreads. It's as simple as that....enjoy the site and your soon to be dreads...peace
