welcome but you never want to retwist! and no 'super hold" anything ...nothing ti hold period u want knots to hold themselves if u "hold" u prevebnt knotting from happening u need free movement nothing stiff or sticky just pure clean hao=ir

retwisting that often will have you bald in a few months max

Welcome to the community Jersey Bound and to the best site on the web.

You used the twist & rip method on your African American hair to start your dreads, now stop re-twisting them. They will never turn into mature dreads as long as you do that, especially doing it 3 times a week. Your hair texture can and will dread on its own from here on in if you let it. Have patience and they will lock up for you and be very healthy. Re-twisting will cause you scalp problems and hair loss down the road, and dread breakage too.

There will be no need for any product like Extreme Hold to be used in your hair either, you can do it all naturally and will have no worries with residues or rock hard dreads. With your hair texture, you will only need to add the moisturizer you normally would use to keep it from getting dry.

Natural African American dreads are beautiful (look at Bob Marley & his sons), they will be lightweight and flow with the wind, dance when you dance and they will last a lifetime if you so choose.

I have Caucasian hair, but others on this site with your hair texture can help you with any product information that you need. Enjoy your journey and again welcome......Peace

WoW, I gotta say the salt water as an accelerator is really working ! I've never started knotting up this short before. It's hard to see the texture in the pic I posted but looking closely you might be able to see how it is starting to naturally section off. I need to fix the way the pic is cropped you can't really see anything. I've been envisioning myself like a crystal that needs a good salt water cleansing. Feelin fine this evening, blessed night knotty friends !

Welcome to the community Dready Dharma. WTF! Why on earth do you cut them off....more than once.... just don't get that at all. IF you feel dreads are vain for you, which is a weird way to think, why would you grow them again? Dreads are not vain, they are the complete opposite.....Perhaps you need to look deep inside your soul to find what is really bothering you. Cutting hair only changes the outside, I hope that you can find the peace within that you need to allow yourself to grow and love who you are. I really am sorry that you feel that way...Peace and love
