I get why people use wax now...

Dread Maintenance

Even at other sites I have seen such bad horror stories from people who have tried to actively manipulate their hair into dreads. Not only do I really admire the uniqueness and inimitable quality of slow-grown free-form dreads, but I would frankly be petrified to repeat some of those horror stories that I have heard about with wax, crocheting, etc.

Ever since coming to this site I have become more aware of just letting my dreads do their thing.

my dreads have raised my vibes

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

Neat. I feel like my short foray into my dread journey has really given me a lift also. I have actually had some people tell me, "You are looking very well." It is helping me strengthen my commitment to live a more nature-centric life.

misconceptions about dreads

General Talk

The most ridiculous one that I repeatedly heard growing up in school was that lots of spiders lived in them.

Naturally occurring dreadlocks a concept difficult to grasp

General Talk

Yes, super interesting. I think that more than just the looks, the actual idea of letting a process happen naturally on its own, without human intervention and scheming, is what super drew me in to the idea of neglect or freeform method of dreads. I am into minimalism also, and it is very much about what we don't do or don't have as much as it is about what we do or what we do have. And I think that our consumer culture has a very hard time understanding this.

Ticks!!!

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I work outdoors and love camping and I also would love to be able to better repel ticks. Just the other day I found one on my leg. It seems to be a time of year when they are really active here again.
