Husband thinking about dreading

My neighbor recently worried about some thinning and wanted us to get him some dread soap. He seems to like it and I'm sure avoiding harsh detergents will help, even if he's not planning on dreading.

Cleanliness is related to hygienic practices, not to skin color. Anything is possible, however spiders try hard to stay out of places where they will be bothered much. If you wash your hair somewhat regularly, I can't imagine a spider would choose to stay there. Also, human hair is not an ideal place for insects, there's no food, and your scalp secretes oils which would further deter bugs and arachnids. Based on the ignorant self righteousness of your husband's friend, I would say it's more likely that this story about his friend is a fictitious one, loosely based on the false story of Bob Marley having spiders in his dreads, or one of the other urban legends in an attempt to make himself seem more knowledgeable or interesting.

When my girlfriend did TNR, her sections kinda rearranged themselves however they wanted. It was real sketchy lookin at first, like it would just be on huge tangle mess, but once she got a little more length on it the loopiness settled down and dreads were forming perfectly. As far as dreadlock shampoo, just cuz it says it's for dreadlocks doesn't mean it's good for them. Definitely avoid sodium lauryl sulfate (or anything that sounds similar), fragrances should be essential oils, if it just says fragrance, that's another way of saying, we don't want you to know what we actually are putting in here. For the loose hairs I see two options, either you can tear the dreads apart, ripping the hair, or you can pull the few strands connecting the dreads out, which will save your hair from being torn and in the long run add to the strength of your dreads, but in the meantime will add to the loose strands flailing about your dome, and in effect slow down the dreading process. It is very important to keep the hair near the scalp somewhat loose, this allows it to move around, loop, knot, and dread itself. Too tight and the tension on the scalp could cause you to lose hair (though that's more of a concern with salon practices). Good luck n BLESS!

Also don't forget to do the final rinse with cold water, it will close the pores on your scalp and won't dry your skin out like hot water (if that's what you use). You should also keep in mind that it may take some time for your scalp to adjust to its new environment and pH level.

I have 26 solid dreads and 4-8 baby ones forming out of the loose hairs. I haven't been separating for a real long time and they're not trying to congo anymore. I feel as if they're the perfect size for me.

I would look into a wrap, or use beads. The elasticity of rubberbands causes a lot of stress on your scalp and actually pulls hair out. Also your locks must be a bit loose near the scalp so they have room to twist, entangle, and knot. This early in the process thickness doesn't mean much, they may become completely undone and retangle, the important thing is to not "reset" them by trying to "fix" them. But they dread from the scalp down so you need to give them that room to move.

Take out those rubberbands, I lost a couple dreads that way. Also not sure what you're going for, but those will end up being some thick-ass dreads. For the most part the dread will be as thick as the section once it matures. If that's what you're going for then your sections are fine, but they will probably try to redefine themselves over time because they're wild and fun like that. If you want skinnier dreads, resection it, you don't want to try and split them later.
