Long, thin sections?

General Questions

Baby knots are starting to form on my natural sectioning. However, I am wondering if my natural sectioning is going to be ok over time - some, especially the ones on the top of my head, are turning out to be long and thin, like a knife rather than a pencil (some up to 1" long with barely any width - I separate the ones longer than that). The sections, when held together in my fingers, are not thick at all, and most are about like 2-4 pieces of spaghetti put together (I may let some grow together after they start to lock up, but for now I like them little like that)

So do you all think the long, thin sectioning will be ok? It feels fine, but if I need to do anything, now is the time.

Washing without water

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Must have been something I picked up when researching no-poo methods, then - I'm glad the no-water method is common here :)

Washing without water

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I know it may sound weird - bear with me. I have been using either baking soda or besan to wash, and wanted to share that I get better results when I do not wet my hair prior to applying the mixture. Of course the mixture has water in it... but I'm not wetting my hair first - just pouring the warm mix on my head with a squirt bottle and rubbing it into the scalp somewhat and letting it sit while I do the other shower-y stuff. Then rinse out and it's super clean. Has anyone else tried this, or have some input?

Dirty looks and negativity

General Questions

What a great thread. After reading up on some passionate opinion blogs around the web, it seems there is a lot of misinformation and some downright hatred (mostly due to myths about white folks not washing ever, and/or wanting to appropriate "black" culture)... Agreeing with Britany - looks like education is key!

Mine are just into the 2nd week, and all I have is fuzz now, but when they start to show, I think I will do a PSA before every public presentation I do, to just dispel any thoughts that I might not wash my hair and to invite questions afterwards. I own a wellness center in a legal town in Maryland, and I have a feeling the folks around here are not going to take too kindly to my choice once they figure out what's going on. It's going to be interesting either way!

Looking forward to more responses on this.

natural neglect hair sectioning

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

My hair is doing this, too - I posted on it before finding this thread. How is it going now? Your photos show our hair is similar in some ways. I am also sharing your profile with Zom-B, who will be in the same boat soon, I think.
