WHY I HAVE DEADLOCKS CAMPAIGN! help put dreadforums on BLAST! :)
Introduce Yourself
I just got SE's e-mail and came straight here... I plan to make one but I want to wait until my locks mature more and hair grows longer. (:
Thank you! I hope so. The residue is why I bought the shampoo, but I now use less b/s too, and add less oils (tea tree, rosemary, lavendar). Also, from what I've read on here ACV is really only necessary for conditioning, I only rinse with that if my hair starts to feel real dry.
Heather said:thanks, crystal. your hair is really pretty and it looks like its knotting up nicely i was actually going to try bs again tonight. i was always having a problem with it leaving a residue on my scalp but i'm going to wash with my organic shampoo first and do the bs after and see what happens. i can't do the acv at all because it makes my hair super slick. we'll see how it goes. i just need my hair to have a little more grip to it.
Crystal O. said:Oh it is happening! They look like they are on their wayto being beautiful dreads, and they will be! I've tried all sorts of stuff to try and accellerate the process like sea salt and wool sweater on my pillow etc., it just takes time...and sometimes a little help and I have to tell you the b/s wash dramatically changed my hair. I bought a residue free shampoo that I used a couple weeks after startingthe b/s wash, it made my scalp feel great, but loosened up a lot of the knotting. I now use that on my scalp, rinse, then pour the b/s wash over my hair and rinse again...either daily or every couple days and my hair seems to be knotting up like crazy. I also flip my hair in the shower and try to let the water run over it from each direction, odd I know, but I think it helps, and helps with rinsing. So anyway, maybe if you alternate your shampoo and the b/s wash? Just a suggestion. Keep the patience and faith. Love your locks, they will love you back
P.S. My boy took me out to dinner Sunday for V-day and I wore my hair down as proudly as I could with all the stares and whispering around me, I would look if I felt a stare and smile when I made eye contact and they would look away quickly. It's gotta be about attitude because they would stop staring. If you are happy with you, don't you worry about anyone else.
SE, I didn't, but I think I may shoot an e-mail asking why they think that is a good idea lollll.
Thanks, KS, I checked the JoAnn by my house over winter break and they didn't have any large hole wooden beads that I could find, but I will try Michaels this weekend, (:
Product description for dread beads from Painful Pleasures. com:
"Great for decorating that purty head of dreads. Everyone needs a couple beads to swing around and they are great for covering rubberbands on your tips while you are waiting for them to lock up! They come in Black, Brown, and Tan. They fit well on most medium size dreads. The inside diameter of the beads are 5/16" or about .9 of a centimeter. If you have any troubles with them staying on smaller dreads you can always use a dab of super glue."

anyone know where I can wooden dread beads for cheap? i'd prefer to not have to buy it from a company i don't support... dreadheadhq, knottyboy.... idk any company that makes people feel like they MUST spend money to have dreads lol.
Oh my goshhhh I know this doesn't help you but I love them!
Maybe try spraying seat salt on the ends of your hair in particular?
So if your scalp naturally produces a decent amount of oil, is there even any need to condition....? (I never really did the baking soda/acv rinse very much and don't intend to... I really do not like how it ends up making my scalp feel. Just got the kiss my face shampoo yesterday and love it more than anythinggg)
EDIT: I mention this last part in the parenthesis just to point out that the shampoo I use is already pH balanced so I don't need conditioner/acv for that...

Salt water has to do with stripping the natural oils from your hair. This is a bad thing in that in can over-dry the hair follicles, but a good thing in that dreading takes place best in drier hair. This is likely part of why african hair dreads so naturally, because we tend to have so little oil present in our hair. Haha, unless your rocking a jerry curl of course, but that is a different kind of grease all together.
