Hair health

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I am always looking for ways to keep my hair as healthy as possible. I try to take care of myself and my hair and skin -

I am curious what you guys do to keep yourselves and your dreads healthy. Healthy, not just cute.

I try and eat well. (I try to avoid sugar and stuff, preservatives - but I do Not avoid alcohol)

I take supplements - oils like cod liver and flax, and (DUH), biotin for my hair.

I don't exercise because that is revolting.

I make lotsa art which helps me survive.

I use aloe and oils on my hair.

What do you guys do to take care of your hair?

lemme know, I am always looking for ideas from people.

Xx,

Amy

Dreadlocks video

General Talk

I have uploaded a utube video on separating congo dreads. Mine were pretty seriously webbed up. They were all connected at least one inch from my scalp. I have had very good luck separating them, while keeping them healthy and not doing Too much damage to my Very sensitive scalp. My hair is naturally very fine and thin, so I had to do this delicately. If this video helps you in any way, then I am glad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfBloVpUGu8 Xx,Amy

aloe vera gel

Dread Products

I totally use an aloe plant. I have superly finicky fragile hair, so I Do tend to use aloe every few days. Just a wee bit. It IS taking my hair a good bit of time to dread up on account of this, but I'm not in a rush.

Besides, it's winter time and you need to stay all moisty conditioned. I'm just sayin'....

Amy

Ugh. My dreads look like poop. POOP!

General Talk

Guys. Help Amy! Stat!My dreads are looking like crap. I got them 'jump started' with t&r a few weeks ago (a month? ionno). In the back, they look completely maniac-ish. I have loose hairs GALORE and I just look crazy. I have superfine hair and it's pretty healthy, so it totally slips out of my "dreads" pretty much wheneverish... as in when I move, sleep, think, breathe, fire off neurons, etc...I'm really vain. I mean, really. This journey is sort of a shit sandwich so far. What do you guys do about these maddening knots that don't stay knotted?Really, what I'm saying is: Reassure me!Don't lie - tell me if you put something in them to hold them in, because I'm desperate here. In fact, did you totally put something in those babies and don't want to fess up on forum? Fine!!! email me off site amymcdonald91@gmail.comIF you've had your dreads for a good bit of time, find them sustainable and healthy, and what the hell I can do to ensure mine will be healthy, lasting, And Cute. Please don't tell me to be all natural if you yourself aren't doing that. I mean, I'm not using anything other than worried glances at the mirror.xx,A

Help! Save My Dreads

Ah - how long have your dreads been 'maniac'-al? I have just begun my 'pulling apart-ing, surgery' process yesterday.I did *gasp* put rubber bands in them to keep them apart - I figured I'd leave the bands in for a few days and then take them out for a few days... the wilderness is pretty bad in my case. I Did manage to free a few of the dreads, but - sadly not many.Plus.My scalp hurts. After searching many other sites, I did buy hair cutter scissors and decide to try SE's suggestion of precision surgery, but I cannot bring myself to do that just yet. I figure I'll try the bands and fearful glances at the mirror instead. The bands are necessary as my congo has gotten a bit out of control.I *guess* one big monster dread would be cool.No. No it wouldn't be.Oh. Right. And, fuck me.... I am out of town right now... all of this fun occurs while I am in a hotel room.*grr*Xx,Amy

Help! Save My Dreads

Christ almighty. FIRST I nattered on that they were coming too loose - and you guys' smokin advice settled me... but Now.... They are all congo-ing up at the roots, and I really can't separate them.Fuck!So. You guys, I do Not want One Huge dreadlock, that would suck. Suck! Can they be saved? (as dreadlocks... not dreadLock)The webbed congo is about 1/4 inch long and then my dreads are plural after that length. Nope, they won't come out.save me?Xx,AmyP.S Oh. Also, the last time that I posted a problem, I included my email address - some people emailed me off forum and that was Extremely Helpful advice... so, here it is again ---> amymcdonald91@gmail.comIf you are uncomfortable posting on site, but think you can help, email me off site

I have lice...

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Oh ugh. Scratch, scratch. I know you've been told, but use lice spray on bike helmets, hats, car head rests, sofa... everything your head has touched since you came in contact with the lice. Obviously make ample use of hot water wash and high heat dryer setting for your sheets and clothes.I had a bitch of a time getting rid of them... but I have kids, and they were hindering my OCD lice removal... you'll be fine. Persevere! Save your hair!A
