Thinning in middle of dread and breaking off help!

Help! Save My Dreads

I have noticed that several of my dread have thin spots in the middle. A few have even broken off due to the fact that they are so thin in places. How can I fix this? My dreads are about 4 years old.

Loose hair getting worse

Dread Maintenance

I have commented on here before about my concern for my loose Hairs. I did my dreads mostly natural. I am a Caucasian with thin fine hair. I have had my dreads for almost four years. Lately the loose hair on top has gotten worse. I seem to have more and more of it. I have tried wrapping it in hemp, but that did not work. I use natural soap but mostly I use baking soda to wash my hair. It is long loose hairs all over the top. Lately my friends have been commenting how my dreads look like they are falling out. What options do I have? Attached are some pics. I am all for just letting them be but at this rate I will have more loose hair than dreads if it continues. Also if anyone who has dreadlock experience and lives near the indianapolis area and would be willing to help me do some maint. let me know.

3 year old dreads, need a little help

Dread Maintenance

I have a natural bar soap I wash them with and then about once a month I do a deep clean with baking soda. The loose hairs have been this way for over a year, If they were going to dread they would have by now. I have used many different soaps all natural soaps that were residue free and for a while just used baking soda. I wrap in a towel for a little while then I let them air dry. I wear my hair down or pull it back most of the time.

3 year old dreads, need a little help

Dread Maintenance

Hey, I have three year old dreadlocks. I have very thin fine hair, I am Caucasian. I understand there will be loose hair, this does not bother me. I have tried to go as natural as possible. My hair is a little below my shoulders now. I have these long strands of hair that are not part of the dread and are just growing beside the dreads. They do not get tangled into the dread and do not dread themselves. Some places I have chunks of hair, I cannot gather them all together because they are not in the same section and if they were a dread they would pull on my scalp. The top of my head has long loose hairs around each dread. The problem is I can never style my dreads because of all the loose hair. It makes my dreads not defined on the top of my head, so if I pull my hair back(say to put in bun) It looks like I have no dreads on the top of my head and it is just a bunch of wild loose hair. What are my options here? If did crochet just once to get all this hair in would it do any good? Is there anything else I can do?

Hairstyle Ideas for my wedding in April

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

I am getting married in April. My dreads are just below my shoulders. I need some ideas on what to do with my hair for the wedding. I need to know more how to do it than just see a picture. So if you have an idea could you share with me instructions on how to do it. My in-laws are a bit ignorant when it comes to dreadlocks so they have been a bit negative towards me and want me to cut them off before the wedding.

Scabies

General Questions

My boyfriend was recentlydiagnosed with Scabies. I think I have them. I was wondering if anyone knew how this would affect my dreads. Do they get in the hair? If so what do I need to do to treat them?

My scalp has gotten very dry. I liked your suggestion on rose water or coconut oil. How is the best way to use these on your scalp?

Trouble with dreads growing together???

Dread Maintenance

My dreads are a year and a half old. I am having a lot of issues with my dreads growing together. I let them go just a couple weeks and they are all attached at the base. I do not enjoy this because it pulls and it starts to hurt. So I end up spending an hour or so having my friend try and separate them. I try to make sure they are separated each time I take a shower but I guess I am not doing a good job. My question is what can I do to help stop this? Also as the roots lock up more will this become less of a problem? Or do I have to weekly go in and separate my dreadlocks for the rest of my dreads life?
