to cut or not to cut?

Introduce Yourself

yea obviously, but it doesn't hurt if the people around you not only accept your locks but also like them. It makes people a lot less annoying sometimes.

If this helps, I always thought it was your kindness, personality , intelligence that won people over versus a"different" hairstyle. (smile)

Introduce Yourself

yea I don't know man. I went through a similar situation. though when I cut my first set of dreads I only had them for 2 years, but 2 years nurturing locks attaches you to them. I cut my hair for similar reasons: looking for a new job, drying my hair was annoying and I wanted to swim more. Needless to say I swam very little that summer, ended back at my old job and flipped out the next day for cutting my hair. I almost completely forogt my initial reason for growing dreads in the first place. I wanted long hair and having dreads were the only way I could ahve it grow down. My current set of locks is around 3 years old and though sometimes it gets annoying, I am much more aware of why I have dreads and take it much more personally then I did before. 10 years is a long time, and it culd be gone in a matter of seconds. Weigh the options.

Dreading Methods

I did the backcomb method myself my second time around. Maybe I'm a bit more comfortable with it since I have done my won dreads before, but if your really familiar with the process you should be able to have some pretty decent results if you know what your doing. Just letting your hair go and knot on its own does work, grant it the process can take a very loooong time: especially if you have straight hair. I suggest learning how to back comb if your getting frustrated.

Did anyone actually think about the question or jsut do an auto-pilot " Fuck that I'm enver cutting them!" I got a few good responses, but I'm looking for reasoning, not just answers from people who have had locks for less than a year comentating on what they think having long dreadlocks would be like.

dude. you jsut said it yourself. You have short dreads and your 19... don't be stubborn. I totoally get what your saying. But I'm sure a point in time will come when you'll say "Damn, this is a pain in teh ass to wash!" Habe your principles, but don't sound like an ass. Jack Roth said:
I just dont think about it, and i dont care how much they weigh FUCK cutting them. To me how long ure dreads are is howw old and wise u are. I have short dreads and im 19 years old, i hope by the time im 50 i will be wiser than i am now and my locks will also be longer :D

yea I personally don't really even having trimming as a thought in my mind. I just don't look forward to them being cumbersome and weighing 30 pounds.

Where do you live? Somewhere around philly?

I'm personally sick of questions about maintenance, products and methods so heres a new topic. I apologize if it's a repeat, but I'm interested for some answers. For the record, I am no where near this point yet, but I wanted to know what is too long for you personally. At what point are you gonna say to yourself " Alright, this is jsut getting too unwieldy. I need to cut it down a bit." For me the main reasons I could think of to trim would be A.)washing and drying is just a burden. B.) Is really annoying when you sleep. C.) Your heads jsut too damn heavy!. I could see anything pastthe waist getting really annoying. But we'll see when I get there.
