I don't know if being uninformed or informed is really relevant. It's an observation

New dreddie is a very sweet person. She never said or alluded to hating anyone, LOL.

As far as Thunderquall being Black (if that is how he chooses to classify himself) doesn't matter. He can still be ignorant about dreads and for me, Daveovthedead's statements were more ignorant. This thread was about thick or thin dreads for blonde hair and he went on a tangent and gave his uninformed statements about Black dreads :(

Hating haters seems self contradictory ;)

Isn't Thundersquall 'black' himself even?

no it's honestly not sterotyping people. i'm jsut goin by what I see. And what i see are a bunch of people with the same sixed locks. I find that hard to believe thats its just a coincidence. Like I said above i'm not speaking for everyone, but what I see is that they look are are made my salons. I believe and I think a lot of true locked people beleive is that when you ahve locks its a personal commitment beyond just a hair style.

Look around you. you know it's not a stereotype. For the next month look at all the black peolpe( or African American) with locks and tell me they aren't made from a factory.... I know we live in a pc society, but don't keep your head in the sand

Right. I completely understand that statement, but the problem I have with it is why do people have to say African American, but don't have to say European American? In the same sentance peolpe will say hypothetically " When whiiite people speak to African Americans..." overcomplicating language for fear of a negative reaction really gets to me. It's hte same assholes that are offended by people not saying happy holidays. Until like 5 years ago it was christmas, now its offensive! I don't know one jewish person who is offended by it and I don't know anyone who celebrates Kwanza...period! And the atheists, including myself for one don't celebrate anything or recognize that christmas is more of a cultural holiday than a religious one. The whole thing is very silly to me.

Well for me personally I have been told that using the word black instead of AA offends *some* people. In my own home I use the word black and I don't have a problem with it but when talking with people I don't know I try to have respect so as not to offend anyone. I don't see anything wrong with that.

By the way I have 2 black children, by adoption, so that is why I may be a bit more sensitive about the topic. I've read a lot and I do try to be a bit PC about some things for their benefit, though I'm not typically PC with many other things.

And I know that AA hair texture locks easier my point was that because of texture I don't believe some would be able to go with the neglect method.

Another thing on this topic. Why are people afriad to say black instead of african Americans? If thats the case shouldn't white people be European Americans? I don't know any black people who are offended by being black. People need to stop being so needlessly sensative. It'll save you a lot of grief

Crystal said:

Wow these are pretty rude statements in my opinion. Locks on African Americans are sometimes a different thing then dreads on a white person. They have different purposes and different meanings. Most African Americans can't go natural, it's the nature of their hair type. These are just ignorant statements.

As for this thread though... I say thick ;)

Daveovthedead said:

Yea it's pretty lame. thats why I always hate it when people say dreads a re a black thing. I barely consider what black people have as dreads. They might as well have a weave

That is so true particularly if you watch NFL see how many black players have those pencil thin dreads/twists its insane. Dont know why that is either cause thicker dreads i think do look better on men.No personalityin their haircause it all looks the exact same.

Daveovthedead said:

ummm thats a really hard question to answer, but for me personally the thicker, not necessarily overly the top thick, but thick nonetheless dreads have a more natural look to them. It seems really common for black people to have thin dreads. The thin ones at least the way they do them end up looking fake and too well manicured. Plus the fact that a salon does it takes I think most of the beauty out of having dreads in the first place.

Nah they're not really ignorant statements. Surely there are some exceptions, but for the most part what I see are salon dreads. And I know their hair grows differently. And that difference would be that it locks easier because of teh texture. I would know: i'm half African. It's cool though. Evereyone has to be PC these days. Whats the fun in speaking an opinion that doesn't placate everyone?

how would the thicker ones result in a heavier head of locks? Thick or thin the same amount of hair would still be present.
Knottysleeves said:

Thicker ones can be heavy, especially once they start to mature. I feel that medium to thin ones give you more flexibility in styling, show less scalp, and knot up a little quicker. But that will all depend on what your hair decides to do, and that's impossible to predict. :-)

Backcombing is a great way to start. Just do it gently... don't yank or pull at your scalp and you'll be fine. Let the comb do most of the work for you. Use a pet comb (the metal kind that has 2 rows of teeth) because it's stronger and forms tangles easier than regular combs.

Keep in mind you're going to lose some length no matter what starting method you use.

Oozy scar on scalp?

Introduce Yourself

no. rosemary is an herb. You can find it in any spice isle. It looks like pine needles. Or you can buy it fresh int eh produce. I'd have to imagine fresh might a bit more pleasant and would retain more of the desirable properties. I'm not surewhat it does for your hair though
