Need Help With New Locks!!!

Dread Maintenance

I'm only on the end of day 2 and I have a lot of the same worries. I'm just forcing my self to leave them alone. I know they are going to fall apart an I hate it lol Mine is almost the opposite of yours, My dreads are real nice towards the top but the ends pretty much would not do anything...so i let them be lol but I have found if you take a Headband that's fairly stretchy and only wrap it twice...It will hold your dreads back well and they still move, An it don't give you a head ache...I Really like loose pigtails but I son't see you rockin out the pigtails :P Good Luck!

We should compaire dreads on Saturday :P Affiong Harris said:
Firstly, Welcome to the site! I am also new. And also, someone's doing my dreads this Friday!
Second, I think (well, assume) dreads fit anyone because they all tend to grow onto the person.
And lastly, I don't really know what method to recommend. I would go with backcombing, but I think that that's a little too much hassle. Personally, I'd try backcombing, but wouldn't recommend it. I'd go with TnR. Good luck!

Thanks! Now I really cant wait lol. Ive waited a long time to have them because i thought there was only a few ways to get them. I always thought the best way was the "knottyboy" way an now I'm very glad I waited an found the Twist n Rip Method. Thank you guys so much ill be sure to get plenty of before an after pictures an a time line ^-^ Thank you guys so much for answering my questions!! Yeah, I don't wanna hurt my new babies. Is there an oil or something I could use that wont hurt them? I don't wanna be puttin hairspray or anything stinky like that in them. Like say VERY small amounts of shea butter? I use it for for my lobe massages before stretching so I have it on hand. I don't mind the frizzies as much as a manager would. I work in retail so I deal with customers daily all the time. So it has to look clean an neat.

You guys rock. I love this place already. Now I'm Stoked ^-^ Friday is too far away. I just can't wait. Everyone in my family is like "Why? arent they nasty" I just tell them you'll see, it'll be cute lol Im still worried about the fuzzyness. I did a little "Test dread" an loved it but the fuzzyness concerns me being is how I need to look professional for a job. I know products are bad, an not to use the oil unless I have to. So what are some ways to calm to frizzy? (I know...no crochet :P )

That was another concern for me. My hair grows slowly, it took me three years just to get it past my shoulders. Shrinkage is a worry because I really don't want little short dreads sticking off my head :P But I also kinda thought that because my hair does grow slowly, it would give my roots more time to knot up an I wouldn't have as much regrowth between my scalp an my little dreadies?Ps. Nice pics fae

Thanks guys!@ Tyler : Thanks for the links! The back combing method seemd to have more of the look i was going for, But i love the way the Twist n Rip looks now. Its still kinda twisted looking, Cute. I think that is the way we'll do it.I've never had dreads and shes never done dreads so it should be interesting. Ill be sure to get pics!Oh! Any tips for comphyness while we do this long process? Or just any tipsAn Thanks again!

Introduce Yourself

Hi, My name is Jessica. I have never had dreads before but i have wanted them for a very VERY long time. I have finally decided to commit. I have a few questions.First off, Would it suit me? I think I would look cute.Okay, now for more important questions. I LOVE instant gratification but i want heathy pretty dreads So, my questions are as follows.I want to have Neat looking, but not fake looking dreads. Would it be a good idea to Start them with the crochet method but not continue to do it? ( I really don't think I could do the "Natual" Method.) I could keep them smooth with Aloe. Is this method any faster? My Third question: The Twist an Rip Method, Does it really lock well and how long would a whole head take to dread with this method? Anyone who used this method, pictures would be much appreciated. Also, I am currently looking for a job, so neatness is a factor.(thats why im considering the crochet method)I'm having someone do my dreads this Friday. So The easiest best method (other then natural) is what I'm looking for. Any Advice would be Awesome ^-^

life partner doesnt find dreads attractive

Dreads in the Family

I 100% agree with what soaringeagle Said. Your partner should be attracted to you, not your looks. I felt like I was in the same boat but I talked to my boyfriend about it an he said "I'm with you...Not your hair" It made me smile.
