still itchy

Dread Maintenance

First I just want to say I LOVE THIS SITE! Every time I have a question about something I just look and usually someone has already asked it - and so many kind people with great suggestions! Thank you!!! I was interested in this discussion because I have a problem with dandruff too - I don't have my dreads yet, but I'm getting ready! lol!But one thing I was wondering, and it seemed to be touched on in this forum, is the measurements for the individual ingredients for the shampoo. I am thinking that the amounts that SE quoted in his post about taking care of dreads might be too much for me - so what do you think for brand new short baby dreads as far as amounts of the different ingredients?

Do Tams or dread socks help?

General Questions

I have seen them online, but you can make them pretty much out of anything. I know people sometimes cut the sleeves off of old t-shirts or sweaters for example. ZuriYAH "Zii" said:

Do Tams or dread socks help?

General Questions

Haha, all I've done is wash with Dr. B's peppermint liquid soap and that's it. It seems that most people on here recommend just doing nothin, so I'm curious to see if it will work. Thanx for the advice on the tams.

Do Tams or dread socks help?

General Questions

I have just started working on my dreads. Like just an hour ago- lol! I know that they will take a while to form but I was wondering about tams and dread socks. Do they help dreads develop? Should I sleep in them? Should I wear one all the time while I am beginning here? What's the deal with these? Thoughts and comments would be helpful - Thanx!!!! :)

Miss Steph's Dreadful Journey (Natural)

Your hair is really beautiful - I am a little jealous because I can guarantee you that my own hair would never have knotted up on it's own without a little T&R and backcombing like yours did. You seem to be blessed with great texture and some curl to your hair and that helps out a lot. My own hair is very fine, silky and straight, so it needed a little boost to get going. ;PGood for you, I loved your pictures and your dreads are really developing so nicely!!! I am excited to see how they mature even more in the future! Thanks for sharing with us!

darkening dreads and hiding lint in dreadlocks with tea

Dread Maintenance

That actually sounds really pretty! How long does the tinting last? It must wash out eventually...? And how much tea do you use? I've never heard of this before.

yeah I did this once, because I had previously bleeched my hair and decided I wanted my natural hair colour back so I used a dark brown dye on the bleeched hair to see if it would work and it went grey! So I washed over some black tea and went a ash/dark blonde :) I'm thinking of doing it again to see if the blonde will totally come out cause now my dreads are like half brown half blonde :P

dreadlock formal or wedding styling tips for african or caucasian dreads

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

I noticed though that in almost all these pictures the people have very neat, clean dreads with pretty tight roots. Now, mine are much younger I'm sure - I'm in my 5th month, but my dreads don't look nearly this tight. Will my roots tighten up on their own? I have not done any crochetting and I was under the impression that natural dreads tend to be messier with looser roots - is that true?? I would love to do some of these styles once my hair is long enough, but I don't know if my dreads will look as nice.
