Essential Oil that are great for dreadlocks.

Dread Products

So in June I made the mistake of choosing Delta Airlines to go to and from NYC. A few hours before my flight My sister and I were trying to decide to remove the heaviest things from my luggage. Along with 6 pounds of peppermint and black soap I had to leave behind my makeup bag full of essential oils. I have had these oils for years ( of course replacing them with time). To make matters worse when I got to the airport my bag was over 10 pounds light.

Its been a few months and with school and work I doubt she will have time to send me the oils so I have bought some new oils.

I repurchased Lavender, Rosemary, Clary Sage, and Peppermint. Tea Tree oil is hiding somewhere. I usually mix the lavender and rosemary into some carrier oil for my hair. Anyone else have any oils that they use?

General Talk

Haha! Before I had dreads I wore an afro for over a year or so. I used to chemically relax it but I stopped adding chemicals and went natural in September 2007. I finally got dreads because it was 3 years no chemicals in my hair and I was cutting the middle man out (box braids, senegalese twists)

With the Afro I got a lot of dirty looks and snide remarks. I got a lot of questions from black women and I would talk about how I was sick of black woman hiding behind chemicals to fit in with the Eurocentric views of beauty. That shut them the hell up and other woman just told me that I had balls to walk around without a perm. When I got dreads AA women would look at me and look at the ground as if they were ashamed of their weave or wig.

lol! she was wearing a black headband and then had a big pile of little multi color braids on top of her head. i'm assuming they are fake because they were way too perfect and shiny looking. if she is one of those girls that uses relaxers and such then her real hair is probably ruined. thats how my sister-in-laws hair is. she basically looks bald in spots from those stupid chemicals. she wants to use the same chemical crap on her 4 year old daughter and i told her she better not. somebody really needs to bring back the afro because a lot of african american women are losing their hair.

*please don't flame me for these comments. i'm not at all racists. i just want women to feel loved and accepted for who they are and not by what the media tells them they need to look like*

Alright, I'm about to be blunt.

Fuck that rude, inconsiderate bitch. >=(

I guarantee that cow was just mad because your hair is longer than hers without you even trying. Insecure bitches like that are ALWAYS the first to say BS because they feel bad about themselves or they're just in a bad mood, and they want to make themselves feel better.

Was she wearing straight hair, too? Or some sort of fake hair?

Ugh, ignore ignorant people like that. Their world is so narrow the slightest thing that is different than what they are used to is a threat. *hugs* Hope you feel better, I think your locks are beautiful.

Air dry but if it is close to bedtime then I may sit under the dryer for 20 minutes.

Salon or do it myself?

Dreading Methods

I went to a salon and it was 55 dollars. A couple of months later I moved and another stylist had to combine and create new dreads because they weren't even dreads anymore. I can't really stir you in the right direction but a dread perm sounds a bit sketchy and you should really know who is doing your hair.

Hi Everyone

Introduce Yourself

On the upside I can totally imagine you with dreadlocks! Although on the downside they make you look very relaxed. I think you should do what makes you happy. There are people on here that are school teachers and they manage to accessorize.

What is your favorite vegetarian meal?

Dreads and Diets

Granny Smith apples and this peanut butter from Greenwich Village called White Chocolate Wonderful (They sell it at walmart now!) is absolutely divine! Nutella can be substituted as well!
