Burning Your Dreads

Dread Maintenance

I've heard of burning braids when you have extensions but never dreadlocks. I would rather twist it then burn it considering that I run the chance of starting a mini fire!

Hello all I'm new at this

Introduce Yourself

He is right. You should only visit a loctician if you can not start them your self . After that a second visit is not neccessary. At one point I was dolling out nearly 100 dollars a month for someone to tighten them with products from the local beauty supply store. For some 100 dollars is not a lot and other girls in my age/race range spend that much getting wigs and weaves, but the money could have been better spent. Welcome.

you do not want anyone to maintain them but you

you just want to leave em alone only wash and seperarte and its a total lie u had to take em out for legal issues they can try to claim it will help your case to cyut em but it doesnt at all they just want you to conform to theyre ideas and if u buckle they know your weak and push u aroud even more

the courts tried forcing a freind to curt hers to change her religion to get rid of all her freinds cause they were african tried forcing her to move etc etc etc even change her diet..but you know if she did any of those things it would only hurt her case not help her

but idf the 1st 3 sets were waxy then its probably a good thing you started over so this time you can do it right

Anyone know if blowdrying dreads is okay?

Dread Maintenance

10 months ago when I washed my hair in the evenings I used to sit under an overhead dryer. They cost 20-30 dollars. Now I would let it air dry, if you go to a beauty supply store or the ethnic hair section at walmart you can just buy a satin finish pillow case cover for 2 dollars so your hair can breathe while you sleep.

New Dreads

Introduce Yourself

Dr. Bronners is a great soap that I used to use. The peppermint one was the best! I also recommend black soap, its great at curing acne. I used to get it in Harlem and Jamaica but the NY retailers actually have accounts on Ebay so you can order it wherever. Its great and inexpensive, if you can't afford it walmart sells black soap for 2 bucks. I would go with the NADINA brand if you can find it but if not Ultra glow can help. Mainstream soaps are not that great since they contain sulfates and other chemicals.

9 Months Later

Dread Maintenance

For those of you that probably don't remember me, I was here 9 months ago freaking out about getting water in my dreads, why they weren't growing every five minutes or this:

By the time I relocated to Florida I scoured the area for loctician. I found one and she automatically told me that the previous person did a terrible job and that she would have to start all over again. I freaked out because I thought she meant shave my head, but instead she was able to just combine locks and create She braided them together and I kept it that way for a month.

After a month I took them out and washed them with Loc A Fella shampoo that is made with Eucalyptus and Peppermint oil. I had purchased it in New York when my sister needed cashback. Aside from the oils there are some chemicals in it that I normally wouldn't approve of.

Back in February the first loctician that I went to had gone out of business. So I found another one near my neighborhood and she did an okay job. During that time in between appointments I washed my hair every 6-8 weeks with the shampoo. Apparently I was her last client because she left after she finished doing my hair that day. I lost her contact info so I am in between locticians until I can find another one. I have not washed my hair or really touched it in two months. I do spray a little sproil (Mango Lime oil in a spray bottle) Once a while, but I don't think I have used it in over a month. Here is the progress so far.

African Black Soap

Dread Products

I can't really give you a definitive answer since this product varies from person to person but please get the liquid. If you do not you will be rubbing that bar all night to lather your scalp!

Fuzzy looks so unprofessional! How do I fix this?

Dread Maintenance

This is probably going to sound like a bad idea but have you considered headbands? Aloe gel would be of a great assistance, you can buy some at vitaminshoppe or a health store. Or Walmart if there is one in your area:

3.97 Aloe Gel 100%

I'd use grey goose because then you can use the rest of it for making Skittles Vodka!

Check out a health store or you can purchase it online on Ebay from various retailers, my favorite was the SleepingDragon company.
