Four months and nothing happening

General Questions

Oh god don't tell me that Nick!!! 10 months? You must be even more patient than I am. I just expected something by now.

I don't run my fingers through it when I wash it, like I said. I pour the Bronners on and pat it to suds it up. I leave it on for a few minutes to make sure it saturates my scalp before I rinse. I don't rub it when I towel dry it. I just put it up in a towel when I get out of the shower and leave it for a few minutes while I get dressed, then take the towel off and let it air dry. Sometimes, I gently squeeze the wet ends with the towel.

I will go back to the baking soda but my hair is not oily at all. It is very dry. When it dries after my shower it looks like straw, it's horrible. I've had dry hair all my life. I have dry skin, dry nails, dry hair. I had a hysterectomy several years ago and everything has been desert dry since then. I have to use tons of moisturizer on my skin. Right now, I wash my hair about 3 times a week but I'll try twice a week if you think that will help. It just starts to get itchy and flaky white stuff on my scalp if I wait too long which is gross. Usually when that happens is when I wash it.

I'm willing to try anything. I will go back to the salt spray again, but it didn't do anything before.

Four months and nothing happening

General Questions

I used the salt spray a few times a week for awhile but it didn't seem to do anything so I stopped. I also used the baking soda and vinegar in the beginning but then I switched to the Bronner's because I love the smell. I'm willing to go back to the baking soda. When I wash it I don't run my fingers through it. I just pour the Bronners on top and scrunch it up. I leave it on for a couple minutes to make sure it saturates my scalp real good before I rinse it. When I towel it, I just wrap the towel around it for a few minutes then take the towel off. I squeeze it gently, no rubbing, then let it air dry.

I've tried putting beads on the sections that start looking "ropey" but they just fall off. I've lost a lot of beads.

Four months and nothing happening

General Questions

Well it was 4 months yesterday since I stopped brushing and combing my hair and committed to the dreading naturally process. Nothing is happening. I have no dreads, no tangles, nothing. Even my partner said "when are you going to give this up? Your hair doesn't look any different than it did the week after you started this." And she's right. I'm really discouraged and wondering if I'm doing something wrong or just need to be more patient. I use only Dr. Bronner's to wash my hair. I wash it about every three days or so when it starts to get itchy and feels dirty. I leave it loose most of the time. Sometimes I put a bandana or wrap if it is really messy and I'm going shopping or whatever. It is layered from my old hairstyle so I don't know if that makes a difference. The longest part is shoulder length now so it's not real short or anything. I will post pics if that will help. I don't want to give up but I don't know what to do different than what I'm doing. I've driven around with my windows open. I'm outside a lot, going fishing and allow the wind to blow it as it will.

Please help!!!

Wow! Well I guess I'll never have one of those. My hair is too short. I only have what I call ropes. Does it ever come undone or what ends up happening to those things, lol?

Wow, I really needed this today. I actually considered brushing my hair last night! I'm getting so sick of the mess and feeling like I have to cover myself to go out in public. I'm in the very messy stage. Stopped combing on June 17. I should post some pictures. I have some rope-like twists on top and underneath in the back. Some that looks normal and straight and then other just frizzy crap, lol. It does get frustrating. Told my partner I'm learning patience and self-love.

Neglect Dread Timeline from day 1 (naturally curly)

Member Journals and Timelines

Hey Patty, I've been going through the same thing except it's been 4 months for me. I finally asked my mom how my hair looks and she said it looks nice, why? lol. I said NICE???? (it was a mess in my opinion) and I said you think it looks nice???? She said well maybe you just need to run a brush through it but otherwise it looks fine, lol. I told her I hadn't brushed it in like 3 months at that time. So that's when we had the whole dreadlocks discussion, blah blah blah. My hair gets into little sections like yours. I call them little ropes. But then when I wash it the ropes seem to wash out and change again. Occasionally I will see a hair that loops like you describe but other than that I have nothing else happening. Apparently it is going to take a lot longer than I realized.

Thanks for posting your journey. I think it's helpful for people to see the process no matter where they are in their journey. Hang in there!!!

Love your dreads and they will love you back!

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

Thank you Crystal. It's been a month since I've brushed my hair. It just looks like a messy mop. No dreads or anything resembling them yet. I am learning patience, lol! I need to read this often.
