General Talk

When people act out in anger or ignorance towards me I usually tell them I'm sorry that they have live their lives in so much pain and misery and that I really hope that one day they can learn to be happy with themselves. People who get caught up in the lives of other people are the people who want to think about their own problems. If we can teach people the problem is them not you haha then maybe they will help themselves. - I would avoid saying that literally though haha. Jah Rastafari

Dreadlocks and Fibromyalgia

Introduce Yourself

Panterra - Yeah I can relate to the hand pain. I'm a carpenter and now that my hands lose strength and lock up I haven't had much work. I've been pigeon-holed into playing music in town haha. My mom has Fibro too so she's been a great friend and emotional support. If you don't have anyone to talk to about Fibro related stuff please feel free to message me anytime. Just like any illness if you don't actually have it, you can't fully understand it. Is your hair naturally the color in your pictures? Because your locks and hair color are beautiful (and if that color isn't yours it says something that I had to ask). I hope it's not raining wherever you are today :) Jah Bless

Dreadlocks and Fibromyalgia

Introduce Yourself

That's great Soaring Eagle, most people with chronic back pain become dependent on pain med's at some point. I'm on some neurological med's that allow me to walk for part of the day so I can work a bit. But I refuse to take any narcotics, don't need negative energy in my life anymore. I have been able to have a shift in my consciousness through Jah and my new healthy dreads coming in have given me more strength and confidence in myself. Once you know Jah's love everything else in life is icing on the cake. Thank you both this site continues to reinforce my faith in humanity. Jah Bless - Soaring Eagle you have helped me to see a neurological disease that most see as a curse, as a blessing. Thanks for continuing to be a positive force and inspiration. People of the rainbow truly are divine and you can be healed no matter how lost you are. Never lose faith. "Brightest lights come from the darkest places"

Dreadlocks and Fibromyalgia

Introduce Yourself

So I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about 4 months into letting my hair grow out. Now it's finally dreading (my page picture is misleading). Just was wondering if there is anyone on here who has Fibro and if their dreads have made them feel better. Considering stress alone makes my hands feel like there literally burning I figured that dreads (as long they represent/contain positive energy) could reduce my pain. This is not my reason for growing dreads but just curious. Thanks for any replies. Jah Bless"The roots of dreadlocks start in the heart"

Natural Dreads Take Time

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

They looked like dreads after a year or so just weren't super super tight. I haven't asked him exactly why he's been avoiding any talk of dreads since he cut them. He's planning on letting it grow back out. I know the first set had to do with healing and finding himself after being awakened by some Rainbow friends. He's pretty complacent so I don't think that influence from culinary school or his age had anything to do with it. I'll have to ask him when it feels like he's ready. It's funny I had someone say "it's just hair" the other day and it really shocked me. But I guess those who don't want to understand never will. But the fire of hate and anger will put itself out as long as we don't fuel it. All you can do is feel sorry for people who hate their lives. Short story long haha

Natural Dreads Take Time

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

So lately I've been running across a lot of people concerned about whether or not their hair will dread. My first set were tick-combed candles that would not dread no matter how long I stared at them, weird I know. A girl I worked with who was a radical Christian hell-bent against all things no white said "Maybe God doesn't want you to dread your hair". Seeing as how I know Jah made our hair to dread I was moredisappointedin people than upset. Anyway fast forward 3 years and add on a bunch of life experience thrown into bags that were weighing me down a bit much and I decided to start over. To learn to love myself and pursue my own happiness and start living. A natural part of that in my eyes is letting your hair lock. So 8 months later as my hair has started to dread beautifully and is locking tight with blunted tips from where it curls. I finally feel comfortable in my own skin and no longer look like an Aryan super-soldier. Taking the Nazarite vow and my faith in Rastafari have also made my life incredibly more positive and enjoyable. Taking alcohol, cigarettes, and eating poison out of your life and its amazing how inspirational the world is. So unless you are malnourished, aging rapidly or extremely greasy for a human being your hair should dread. A friend of mine who just cut off his 16 year old dreads said it took 5 years for them to lock. Knowing the source that might be when he considered them dreads, were a good bit a like which explains why I haven't posted pictures yet. So as it's been said over and over and over and over on this site, learn to just be and stop wishing and you'll get what you truly want. Once you realize you don't have much control over anything in life other than your own soul it will be easier to let your hair take its course. However if how you appear to others is still the most important thing in your life rejoice! and be grateful that greater issues are not on your mind. One Heart, One Aim, One Destiny, One Love- Jah Rastafari. Jah Bless

Nice to meet you

Introduce Yourself

I shaved my head then quit drinking, smoking cigarettes and drugs altogether (except prescribed neurological meds that allow me to get out of bed) so January 10th is my dread birthday as well as a celebration of life. Although my hair is just now dreading and I'll have a bit of a dread mullet for a little bit this is process has really been more of a process of me learning to love myself than anything. I have become so distant from the way I used to live and finally feel comfortable in my own skin. Remember that you will always know whats best for you regardless of what anyone says. Makes me happy to see people on here who have changed their lives for the better I have too many friends that have wasted this life not knowing how beautiful it truly is.

I screwed up, and I need advice.

Dread Maintenance

I would look at this as anopportunityto get your hair really clean and finding a good shampoo/shampoo bar that works well for you instead of seeing it as a set-back. I know the feeling, not with dreads, butabstainingfrom other things. You just have to keep moving forward and you already know I'm sure :)

Employment W/Dreads

dreads jobs employment issues

Only work related accident I personally know of is a friend of mine who pulled out one of his 16 year old dreads with an angle grinder at a construction site. He didnt seem to care too much though and has shaved them off recently

Construction and landscaping are jobs where you would never even be asked about your dreads but it is dusty so you have to keep them clean on the daily.

Kitchen work is cool they just make you thrown on a hat or bandana

My girlfriend is a grad student and teaches some classes at Tech and she has natural (neglect) dreadlocks, In a professional setting I think if you present yourself in a confident manner and are genuine respect is usually received. You get what you give I guess

American Healthcare more evasive than unicorns

General Talk

Ive been looking but Virginia doesn't seem to have anything for people who make over 12,000 so if you make say 20,000 a year you get denied ad but can barely pay for the medical bills. Even to go to my doctor to get a new script or follow up is $72 dollars. I'm going to apply for ad through Phizer. The commonwealth can be extremely frustrating at times. My girlfriend is from Rhode Island and cant get over how difficult all this has been.
