Oily Scalp From Dr.Bronners

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

There are a lot of shampoos you can get. If you live in the states 85% of the country has hard-water. Personally I would try using more Baking Soda before you give up on that. Sodium bicarbonate is found naturally in mineral pools. It turns to a gas when it reacts to water so, if your hair feels rough or a little sticky/tacky it is from the water itself not the Baking Soda. Under products Heather and Panterra have a great list of shampoos and reviews written as well. Hope some of this helps, Jah Bless

Oily Scalp From Dr.Bronners

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Do you know if you have hard-water? Castille based soaps don't rinse very well with hard-water and if there is soap left in your hair to the put it feels oily the dreading process will be slower. Have you tried the Baking Soda rinse. Even with hard-water if you use a bit more Baking Soda it will rinse out fully if you do it right (ACV rinse then rinse repeat as many times as you need)

Help! Having a wobble :(

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

Wouldn't being "normal" mean not changing or altering the way God (higher power) created you to be. It's amazing how many squares fit in a round world :) Bless up.

Putting myself out there...

Introduce Yourself

My friend has a vineyard in Stuart Virginia outside of Floyd County where they make and distribute wine. They have all sorts of animals, live off the land and make mountain rum and shoot AK-47's. I don't drink myself or necessarily agree with the heavy fire-arms just wanted to let you know that is a completely plausible dream. Probably more likely than getting a job that pays well. I agree with the medication's as well, I have to take a few thing's so that my legs work for part of the day but a friend of mine was in heavy chemo treatments for a long time and attests most of her cancer going into remission because of herb and holistic treatments. I hope all is well and although we are strangers I'm proud of you for being true to yourself. It's hard to do at times but one of the most important things in this life. Jah Bless

Starting over with neglect method

Introduce Yourself

I shaved my head for the last time in December (unless it's Jah's will of course) and all of my hair is locking and clearly have dreadlocks and they are getting tighter every day. If you forget you have hair you'll see yourself grow and other's will notice your dreadlocks haha.

Some questions here!

Introduce Yourself

Little extra info. Bob Marley's dreads fell of due to heavy chemo treatments long before his transformation. When he was bured (6 feet above ground) his dreadlocks were fashioned into a wig to help retain his image in the eye's of the people. Jah Bless

Just a few Dreads ?

General Questions

Natural dreads usually don't form all at once anyway. You always know what's best for you and always follow that voice unless it brings harm. I'd say you're sane. Dreads are normal hair too :) Sometimes you're not the black sheep, but the only white one.

Hard-Water Baking Soda Debate

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

There has been an ongoing debate about BS rinses working in hard-water areas. Which if you live in the states, more than 85% of the water is considered "hard". I have been using Dr. Bronners Baby-Mild Scentless Castille Soap. Heavilydiluted, but I could feel that not all of it was being rinsed out of my hair. More importantly my scalp has started to feel like its suffocating. So the next step naturally (if you spend any time on this site) is to try the BS essential oil rinse. So I mixed up a 1 gallon tea-pitcher with 1/2 cup of Baking Soda, 30 drops Rosemary Oil, 30 dropsLavenderOil, and 10-15 dropsTea-treeOil. Poured it over and let it soak. Let my hair really soak up everything making sure that my scalp got most of the pour. Then using the same tea-pitcher filled it up and rinsed/repeat. For extra measure I added a dab of Apple-Cider vinegar to the my pitcher filled it again and you get the idea. I continued to rinse maybe 5-6 times just to make sure that everything was out of my hair. My hair is light and clean and I did notice some loose dandruff. But it is only dead-skin that has been freed up by the Baking Soda. All the gunk that was on my head is finally being cleaned off and I'm sure it won't all be gone until a couple more washing's. SE has said it a million times that Sodium bicarbonate turns to gas when it reacts with water. It's even found dissolved in mineral springs. It also reacts specifically to vinegar too. I'm glad that I went ahead and tested this and honestly I can't afford to buy anything anyway and had all this on hand. Some water may be harder than others and may leave your hair feeling rough as the minerals raise ridges on follicles, but it's not the Baking Soda itself. I know some of you have tried and tried working with hard-water and some people don't like the way it leaves your hair feeling. There are shower-head watersoftenerattachmentsyou can buy for relatively cheap as well. Hope this can help someone because the BS Essential Oil rinse is hands down the cheapest and most effective way to clean your hair if done correctly. Jah Bless!

BS Wash Removing Hair Dye

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Today I ran across an article that was talking about removing hair dye using dandruff shampoo mixed with baking soda. They also suggested using diluted laundry detergent and bleach (can't be good for hair or scalp). I had seen that a few people had posted saying they were having problem dying their dreads. I don't plan on ever dyeing my dreads and ran across this article by accident looking for different shampoo's for hard water areas. I'm continuing to use my BS wash and have been able to get my hair clean despite the water. Just thought I'd share the information for the exuberantly colorful dreadies out there.
