Scary New Dreads ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED (Short)

General Questions

I'm not sure about everyone else but it certainly looks to me in the pics without the bands that your hair has sectioned very well. The thing to remember is that hair dreads naturally so if you take away the bands you will see a bit of blending but as your hair grows the sections will hold better. Light T&R will help you with this.I understand you are anxious about taking the bands out but they will actually hinder your hair from dreading. Just let go and you'll feel better about the process :-)

Dreading Methods

A little late to the argument but I would like to add a point here.Firstly, crocheted dreads literally rip your hair apart. The only reason it doesn't fall out of the "dread" is because it is held on by the few hairs left intact. The reason I know this? I crocheted my hair at first. Thankfully the wax never touched my hair otherwise SE would have quite the project on his hands.Secondly, there is a spiritual journey involved in developing original dreads over years. The experiences you have, places you live, and the people you meet are reflected in the creative way your dreads form. Patented crochet techniques ignore this and encourage people to artificially re-create the beauty of real dreads. Too bad it doesn't work.It seems that people are so focused on making a few bucks from the under educated that they are willing to patent and advertise damaging techniques.Where is the person that is just helping people have healthy, strong dreads without any expectation of financial gain? Oh, yah, SE :-) Thank you for saving so many people from years of struggle!!!Admins- these guys have been straightened out right cause they're upsetting our harmony.

I am very sorry to hear this!I was actually just helping in my dad's garden the other day and ended up with a bunch of lice bites on my feet from the previous owners dog and started wondering what I could/would do if I got lice in my hair.

Awesome, thank you! I always save my lavender soap for bedsheets too :-) I'll definitely be giving the Dr. B's a try. Knottysleeves said:
Yup, I use the Dr B's liquid soap. It's super concentrated though, a little goes a long way. For a full load of laundry I just add a few squirts to the water. The soap doesn't foam a lot, but it definitely works. I like the almond one for laundry, though the lavender is heavenly for bedsheets!

Sorry, this is off topic, but which do you use for your laundry? Just the liquid shampoo? How much do you use?

Sorry, this is off topic, but which do you use for your laundry? Just the liquid shampoo? How much do you use?The store by me carries a number of their products but I've never looked for one that needs to be diluted. Knottysleeves said:
My grocery store has just started carrying Dr B's... I used to have to go clear across town to the health food store to buy it! (I use it for laundry.)

Easiest way is probably to wash one test dread and see how it feels afterwards. Just make sure to dilute the stuff a LOT.

There has to be a common sense of humour and outlook on life that dready people share because I have yet to meet someone here that doesn't share in the same jokes, love the same things, and is just an amazing human being.I don't know about you though Shiva- anyone good looking enough to receive scammer emails has got to be hung up on their ridiculous good looks :-P
