Additional oils

Dread Products

I've been wondering whether it's okay to put patchouli oil into a homemade dread shampoo...

Whats the worst substance to on your dreads?

Dread Maintenance

Even when they're closed it gets onto the eyelashes and into the eye! Plus, it's more fun when they're open. Haha. Sorry for getting off topic soaringeagle said:

I have to agree though, cum in the dreads is quite annoying to get out. But not as bad as in your eye! eek!

the price of well maintained salon dreads

Dread Maintenance

Yeah seriously, that's a ridiculous price. When I was really worried about mine, I was gonna have a guy fix them, but he said he'd have to get rid of them and make completely new ones for 300 euro!!! No way!!

It's been almost a month. Mayhem on my head. What are they doing??

Dread Maintenance

They were started with twist n rip, and so far I've just been neglecting them, washing them now and then.Yeah, that's what I was thinking... just let nature take it's course, I was just scared they'll unravel completely and never be dreds. They're just so weird at the moment, I don't really care, but people are telling me to get help

Hey guys! I know you'll have heard all this loads of times before, but I am seriously worried about my dreds. They are doing crazy things. They've come completely undone at the roots, although some of them are quite tight, and generally they're looking less and less like dreds at all.
Got some pictures for ya:

Everyone keeps telling me to go at them with a crochet needle, but I didn't really want to do that as it's kinda unnatural, and I wanted to do this the natural way, however I'm starting to think these will never turn into dreds!!!

Halp!

Brand new twist & rip baby dreads!

Introduce Yourself

Well, my hair had basically formed one or two big dreads, before we did this the other day, I had to condition the hell out of my hair just so my sister could section it. So yeah, dreads definitely did form at the back, but they tended to want to clump together into one big crazy nest of hair. And that's a really good point Sister Rags! I used semi-permanent hair dyes aaaaall the time. In those 4 years my hair was purple, pink, blue and turquoise so yeah :DAnd yeah, I know my dreads look like messy braids atm, but you guys know what a journey this is, and for now they're doing pretty well I think!

Brand new twist & rip baby dreads!

Introduce Yourself

Hi guys!
I've been lurking around here for a while, and since my little sister recently transformed my hair into lots of (wannabe) dreads, I decided to join! This is where we're at so far:

They're all new and fresh and twisty-looking now, but with a little fiddling i'm sure they will felt in like, a year, haha.

Now a little background, i'm 19, and currently a politics student, although I plan never to do anything with my degree, never to get a proper job, and to earn a living as a free-of-charge sex therapist, living off donations, working in a collective. I guess from this you can already sort of tell what my philosophy on life is.

I'm very much a primitivist, and wish to go back to nature when I can and live my life in that way. Grow my own food, build my own home etc.

Now, why did I want the dreads?

Well, for 4 years I neglected my hair completely, didn't wash it with anything but water, and never ever brushed it. It was about shoulder length, and turned pretty crazy. Dreads started forming on their own, but more than that it was just a complete messy, nest of hair. Everyone asked me why don't I just get dreads, since my hair was practically one big dreadlock anyway, and then I could live this lifestyle of hair neglect fully - actually make something out of it. Seemed like a great idea to me!

So in absolutely no time, my sister and I tore all the craziness in my hair apart and tried to make something out of it that would eventually turn into proper dreads!

And that is the story!

I look forward to meeting all of you!

Peace and love :)
