While neglecting, When should you start to consider ripping hair into sections?

Dread Maintenance

Im only about a month in but im just wondering at what point should i start ripping hair sections apart to avoid congos? I dont want to neglect my hair too long and then find out im unable to undo the thickness of certain areas.

Question about Broken loose hairs

Dread Maintenance

Natural sir, I know in the diagram it kind of looks like dreads but i just drew the hair that way so itd be easier to understand.Thought it was kinda weird too. Thought it could be due to just broken hair when washing or possibly sleeping on strands of broken hair that i didnt see. havnt really come across many but there was sort of a "main" one which is what i drew.Anyway thoughThanks for the help. =D

Question about Broken loose hairs

Dread Maintenance

So im about a month in, and yes my hair is starting to get stuck together etc. One thing im noticing though is that sometimes i come across these long broken strands of hair that tend to connect front strands of hair to back. Ive created this diagram below so you can get what i mean.

Now my question is, what to do about these? I just ripped one out the other day but im afraid that im going to be untangling any progress ive made so far.

Should i rip em out? cut em out? or just let them hang?

how thick to dreads get once locked in relation to sectioning?

Introduce Yourself

soaringeagle said:
well that depends naturaly your dread will be approx the same size as section..but crocheting can make it way thinner..wrapping as well can make it thinner except at the unwrapped roots
Just to be clear when we are talking sections, are we referring to the thickness of the clumps of hair or are we talking about the thickness of the area where hair is growing out of the scalp?

how thick to dreads get once locked in relation to sectioning?

Introduce Yourself

So in relation to how big dreadlock sections are as a general rule, do they get thinner or thicker?

Like for example say i start sectioning my hair into the thickness of a US dime. Once locked would the hair section get thicker or thinner? or stay around the same size?

sorry if the answer is obvious but... What exactly does a baby dread look like?

Dread Maintenance

Im in the same school of though as Rama. Im about 3 weeks in and dont have anything like that really. My hair is getting really curly so im wondering if its going to just keep on getting more curly until the sections form a tight cylindrical shape or if theyll start looking like knottys babies. Which are awesome BTW =D.
