wondering how I should feel about life right now

Introduce Yourself

Here's my opinion...feeling the NEED for other humans is normal. It's in our nature to be connected to others, whether that is people or animals. We crave affection, touch, love, and although most of us hate to admit it, acceptance from others. I know what you're feeling...you feel weak because of these needs. Just remember everyone feels what you feel, on some level. That's why places like Facebook are so popular..why texting and Twitter have exploded. They get us connected super fast, and KEEP us connected 24 hours a day if we choose. As for how you should spend your time, everything in moderation. Don't isolate yourself all the time, but don't force yourself constantly into social crap all the time either. One rule I started using when it comes to friends is...if there's not something about them I can admire, and if they can't somehow contibute positively to my life, I won't waste my precious time on them. Call it selfish if you want, but selfish isn't always a bad thing. Just don't deprive yourself of a basic human need. If you ask me, it falls right up there with food, clothing, and shelter...love, affection, interaction.

Dread Maintenance

I have no advice, just wanted to comment on how rad they look to me. I get vain from time to time for sure, but that's what the dreadies are teaching me..that it does no good to be vain! Still hard to not be tho...

Where can I find straight up oils for my hair?

Dread Maintenance

This area I live in is just narrow in general :) they're not quite caught up to the organic side of life. There is ONE health food store I could try..thanks.

Hmm, online, at a vitamin store (they are expensive and narrow), or a health/organic food/product market.

Where can I find straight up oils for my hair?

Dread Maintenance

I did find teatree oil at Target, but no luck with anything else. I'm sure there are boutiques that may have them, but I think I'll check out Lonnie's site instead of driving all over town. It does suck to wait, but when it comes in the mail it's like Christmas :) thanks for the info.

I live right near a number of natural food stores, so that's usually where I buy oils. I have found tea tree oil at Target and I'm pretty sure they also carry lavender oil. Since you don't live near any shops that carry oils, online seems to be your best bet. It's frustrating to wait for stuff you've ordered to arrive, but at least there is that option. Are there any boutiques or gift stores near you that might sell oils? Sometimes stores will have them kind of hidden and not right out in the open like bigger merchandise. That link looks like a good resource, Lonnie.

Lavender, rosemary, tea tree...where can I purchase these items for my hair rinse? The teas are easy to find, but I live in an area with not many specialty shops or anything like that...

btw I LOVE this place :)

Thanks in advance

Dread Maintenance

(sigh) i am approaching 6 months with my dreadies, and am ever so happy. They are maturing more and more as the weeks go by, but I have some loose pieces that just don't wanna be friends with their neighbors. After reading some suggestions throughout the forum on whether to wax or not to wax, I have decided to really slack off on the wax. I maybe use it twice a month, when I get to the point where I just grow tired of the frazzles that won't cooperate. I'm using a little aloe here and there, but I am really having to dig deep inside myself to not scream some days. I have NO ONE around me that can sympathize with me or give advice, except for one guy that suggests the gritty aloe-like substance of a prickly pear. Heck, dreads are somewhat of an oddity where I live now, and at the stage they are in, it's hard to imagine the end result. Most of the time I embrace this journey with no reservations, but some days are really trying. I just need someone to tell me my hair looks good and that they are on track :( I'll upload some photos soon, as I am in dire need of some feedback!

I am that brain dead jock....

Dreading Methods

Dreading your hair, in my 6 months of experience, can be whatever you want it to be. You can start your dreads with one idea in mind, and as THEY evolve, watch yourself, because so will you. I started dreads because I wanted to match my inside self with my outside self. I always struggled with these two things being mismatched somehow, but it took me years to figure out how to put the whole puzzle together. I pride myself on not being superficial, but ironically, is that not what I'm doing now? To err is human, and we all are that, human. We are all superficial on some level. It's being AWARE of it that's important, and taking it out of context when you know it shouldn't apply. Don't beat yourself up. Just let yourself evolve. You will be amazed at where "just hair" can take you. :)
