need advice on combing out dreads!

General Questions

nope it wasn't specifically for dreads :( didn't even know that existed! oh well! I will know better next time! Buffalo Rogers said:
ooh coloring :( Was it one that was specifically for dreads? I've heard a lot of hair coloring chems make your dreads brittle and cause them to fall apart like that...

So sorry for your loss, better luck next time hopefully!

need advice on combing out dreads!

General Questions

Update for you guys who tried to help me out! Most of them combed out within the first day or so, but 3 big ass knots remained. Oh man they were crazy knots! So for 2 weeks I tried to "pick" them out with a metal rat tail comb. It was semi-successful, I got 2 out of 3 broken up real well. One knot kept getting worse so I performed emergency surgery on it :( Thankfully I have lots of hair so the section of 1 inch long hair you don't even notice! Thanks guys for the help! I'll try again next year!!!

need advice on combing out dreads!

General Questions

I have 2.5 month old dreads. I recently colored them, and well basically...they all fell apart! All my hard work and patience ruined. I made the decision to not continue dreading, as I feel it may have just not been the right time for me. I will try again next year.

I would however like anyone's advice they have to give about getting rid of the 8 dreads i have left. Any home remedies? Or amazing products you've heard of?

I've just been conditioning and leaving leave-in conditioner on the knots during the day and while I sleep. I know I must have patience for this also, which I have plenty of. Just thought I would see what you guys have to say!

Shampoo vs. Rinses (and a few other dread questions)

Dread Maintenance

So of course I have been using DreadHeadHQ shampoo, glad I'm not the only one who fell for the scam(luckily I found you guys pretty soon) and it's ok and everything but I want something that smells nice :) So I have a few questions for you guys! First off after reading several discussions I decided I want to pretty much make my own shampoo. I went to Whole Foods one day, but I didnt get a chance to look back on the post that I had read so I started winging it. Here are all the things I bought for my fresh dreads:Apple Cider VinegarAloeTea Tree OilSea SaltGrapefruit Oil (I fell in love with the smell)(& Baking Soda from somewhere else)I tried to find what I had read before but I am having no luck finding it. It hit me though that the vinegar is more for a rinse than shampoo & I started 2nd guessing myself on everything! So basically, what should I do to make a good shampoo out of all these ingredients to put in my empty spray bottle! (Should I be mixing the dreadhead shampoo in there too?)Anyone know if Grapfruit Oil is okay for my dreads/scalp? I bought it off of smell alone! Just want to make sure its ok to add to my shampoo! And also, how often are you suppose to do the rinse with the vinegar? Do I really need lemon juice?Oh yeah and the aloe, I know I probably shouldn't use it all the time but that is the best thing for taming the frizzies right!?Oooh and another question, sorry guys, accelerator. Sea salt & water? I also live 5 minutes away from the ocean so I could just grab some ocean water. And how often should I use that?I forgot...LAST question I promise. I have 2 or 3 of my backcombed dreadies that have completely fallen out. Any suggestions?Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to anyone who can help me out with my many questions!!!!

Newbie here!

Introduce Yourself

Hello to all! I've been searching this website for over a week now, but I have officially signed up, and I am glad to be a part of it! My dreadies are officially 12 days old today, and though the frizz is driving me bananas, I am still enjoying them! I, along with apparently alot of you, went the DreadHeadHQ way. 8 hours of pain, luckily by 1 am I was too tired to wax them! But I did however do some waxing the next day, but I hated how it felt so I barely put any on my dreads! Anywho, found you guys the next day and immediately washed that crap out & was so happy that I did! They are a bit of a mess at the moment, but that is perfectly fine right!? :) Ok, well I have some questions, but I am going to be putting them in a different category because I am not sure how many people look at this one!Thank you dreadlockssite for existing :)Oh yeah... and my name is April!
