I HATE when people say "Dude, you need to get your hair re-twisted." Most annoying thing I get about my hair

Dread Maintenance

Im talkin about loose hair at the root, between my scalp and the dread, the rest I could care less about. Is there any way I could speed up the locking of the newgrowh?

Dread Maintenance

A little over an inch on all of my dreads, and I wanted to know how I could make them begin to lock. I started my dreads with the comb twist method, and I have african texture hair if its any help.

Introduce Yourself

Wow, I didn't realize what I was really doing to my hair. At this point, it's too late to completely start over. But I'm definitely going to try to remove as much wax and goop from my hair as possible, and start forming my dreads naturally.Btw, Thanks for all the information guys, it's a huge help.

Introduce Yourself

I'm nick, and I started dreading in the beggining of summer. I'm really glad I found this place, because I could use alot of help with keepin my dreads nice and knotty, and the information here seems really helpful, and all the members seem nice enough =)Anyways, I started my dreads in a salon, with the comb twist method. I went in with probably 12 inches of hair thinking the hair stylist would dread them up for me at the length it was at. WRONG. I'm never going back to a salon. They cut like 6 inches of hair off, washed and CONDITIONED my hair, twisted it with some gel, put clips at the root, and baked my hair under a hairdryer for 30 minutes. So after a bad experience at the salon, I decided to dread my hair on my own. So I started poking around on the internet for good methods of dreading and came upon some knotty jonny videos on youtube. I saw jonny's dreads and thought, wow those look amazing. So as you can probably imagine, I started using the methods that jonny reccomended. So I started waxing my hair twice a week and it didnt help at all. Once I realized the wax wasnt dong much but sticking my hair together, I decided to find a better method. I found the crochet method and figured it was the way to go. It's the method I'm currently using, and so far it's working pretty well.So yea, so far that's my dread story lol. I still don't know what method is best, so if people could share some tips, tricks, or better methods of getting my dreads nice and knotty, that would be awesome. Thanks!
