Dread Maintenance

yes yes sister you are absolutely right..too many people are so oblivious to nature anyway, of course they would never think that nature can make our hair this way too!! Let us give thanks now for this forum and the knowledge coming with it so that we may move forward together not giving a damn about loops in our locks!! yaaayyy!!!dani said:
.. then where is the patience that it takes to let them start on their own??

it is often so not the patience but the not knowing part, i also spent so many hours in backcombing and croching, and i done for free with a lot of love, as i thought that this was a natural way, i was such sure, because such common here, that it never came up to look at google
til the moment i noticed that my dreads are getting such thin, i knew something was wrong, took me stil a while till i asked meself that question, and at that moment SE came into my life with this dreadforum, seeeen
it was always clear to me that by much and curly hair it goes natural, but yes by my kind of hair such style that i acutally never had to use a comb anyway, seeen, i thought, that for dreads you have to help the nature

i cannot change the past, as i felt such unhappy that i backcombed and croched so many of my friends, but i can change the future, so that is why this forum and all of us is such important to reach and to pass on the right knowledge to those who wanting to become a dread

Dread Maintenance

GO TO YOUR LOCAL NURSERY AND BUY THE BIGGEST ALOE PLANT THEY HAVE!!THEN!..pull all the fat pieces out and cut them open on the sides so you can open it up flat.Take a spoon and scrape all of the meat and jelly and water out of the inside of the plant and into a blenderblend it upstrain it through an old t-shirt and then wrap up all of the solid material in the tshirt and twist it up into a ball and SQUEEZE all of the extra water out.Dump this on your locks and wrap them up in a bag or a towel for the day or for several hours anyway..Then rinse well.. your hair will suck up this love and it will repair the damage probably done to your scalp by "making" your dreads in the first place.never use wax or chemicals.. they are the enemy of dreadlocks..hope this helps you!!

Dread Maintenance

i mean it's not really that unfair to tell the truth.. it IS becoming a fad! it's really unfortunate that someone spent 12 hours doing damage to your hair folicles. dreading is natural and doesn't do any damage at all.. it just comes together. there is no such thing as "starting" and "maintaining" dreads.. both of those completely defeat the purpose. if you are committing your WHOLE LIFE to a hairstyle.. then where is the patience that it takes to let them start on their own??Amber-Dawn Andersen said:
well now as a new sister to this , i must say that i think it is unfair to say that because we have so many questions we are treating this as a fad, some of us are just unsure of how to start and maintain healthy dreads. i for one, after 3 people took 12 and a half hours to do my dreads, really don't want to fuck them up!!!! i thought very long and even harder before committing my life to my hair and i want to learn all i can! i think it is great that i can turn to a site like this where i will find folks that have made it through the "fuzzies" and such:)

wow, what a bunch of impatient folk. If you want it done quick and neat go to a freakin' salon. Dreads takes MONTHS to YEARS to cultivate. i had fuzzies, too. Now they are getting long enough to start forming their own dreads- three years later. the more you "add" stuff and fuck with them the weaker they'll be and the longer it will take before you start locking your hair. You can mat it up with goop, crochetting, or rolling, but dreads grow from the roots. matted hair ain't dreadlocks in my book. dreads are the growth AFTER you mat, knot, tangle, braid, twist, or roll your hair.

but to each their own. so many ppl treat this like a fad.

i 100% agree with Jelly! Why do you have dreads if you are worried about how they look? that's so silly! Is anyone actually going to MAKE YOU take them out? If they have anything to say tell them its a natural process and if they have a problem with it then they can take it up with God. Really all of the effort that you have already put into them is just going to come out because dreading is it's OWN process that NEEDS to happen naturally... dreading really should not just be a hairstyle fad. why did you start locking your hair love?shaun saunders said:

louse in dreads or mould in dread and how to treat

Dread Maintenance

my girl got bugs from the person who died her dreadies rainbow colors, and we got rid of them by soaking her hair in rubbing alcohol and covering it with a plastic bag. We let it sit for like 30 minutes and then she couldn't breathe anymore, so we rinsed. you should have seen all the rainbow colored bugs falling out of her hair into the bathtub!.. they definitely didn't come back either!sooo..isopropyl rubbing alcohol

What is a Hippie?

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

my mind associates the word hippie with straight up peace and love. I see flowers and smiles and dancing ring around the rosy style. I see a massive movement of people coming together realizing that they love each other. I see revolutionaries that started a message that changed my life even 40 years later..When people call me a hippie, I just smile and accept it. I am dirty! I do stink! I don't shave! I dance like a maniac! I grow my veggies and make my clothes and cloth diaper and hug strangers till they hug me back! People may think it's silly.. but wait til I hug them too! They'll change their mind!As far as being straight up offended by someone calling you a hippie.. or anything else for that matter.. my only advice is to LET IT GO!! People are changing but until they do, they love to put everything in boxes.. so let them.. you're not in a box and you know it.. so just let it pass by.. show by example that whatever they want to classify you as.. its in the positive box!
