My 2nd set of Natural Dreadlocks

Member Journals and Timelines

Hi people! I'm making this timeline to document the progress of my second journey of natty dreads...

So... My hair is thick, i think it is a bit straight [none of my parents have curly hair, my father haves wavy hair and my mother haves straight hair], but it makes waves when combed, and it curls when neglected.

I'm washed on day 1, and day 3, i plan to wash 3 times a week, i'm using a vegan residue free dreadlock shampoo bar that i bought here on Brazil [as it is far cheaper than importing from Vicki's as Brazil customs sucks, also the girl who make the bars have NEGLECT dreadlocks with straight hair, so she knows what she is doing, and i'm paying only what is equal to $2,50], and i'm using a spray with a solution of magnesium hydroxide, lavender and lemon-grass oil which works for itches, and to heal scalp wounds fast.

So, let's go to the pictures!

Just before embracing the journey again:

-

4 days of neglect -I'm really happy with the progress, i'm progressing faster than in my last set [that you can check here the timeline]. What sucks is that some sections are sticking up, it didn't happened on my previous set, but i think this is a sign of fast progress.

Introducing myself!

Introduce Yourself

Hi people! I have been wandering in this community for 2 years, most of you knows me but i never introduced myself.

My name is Diego, i'm brazilian, i love punk rock and hardcore music, i have thick wavy/curly hair [but the texture is somewhat smooth] and i'm back to dreadlockssite!

I've learned a lot here [and by experience too], and i'm really grateful, i had neglect dreadlocks for 18 months [Jun 2012 to Dec 2013], and that journey to me was the best thing that ever happened to me in my whole life, as i have a history of severe depression on my life, but i've learned how to be patient and to love myself before anything, and this lesson will be with me forever.

My last set rocked a lot [my timeline https://neglectdreadlocks.imgur.com ], but i had to cut it on December, because i wanted thin dreads, but on the back of my head they were joining a lot. Since October i recurred to SCISSORS to separate the dreads because it were almost IMPOSSIBLE to separate with my fingers, and when i tried it broke a lot of hair anyways... If i kept separating them i would broke my dreads, so i decided to cut them, wait my hair grow a little bit and start a new set. I remember that i lost almost the first five months of the journey, because on the first month i washed with only plain water, i had mild psoriasis, and i never separated before the fifth month. On the fifth month i separated almost all sections...

Now on this set i think that i'll not do mistakes like i did on the previous set... Now i know that i should separate early, or at least check the sections and roots, wash with something that will clean my hair and don't touch it so much [on my previous set my hands were on my hair at least 3 entire hours a day]...

I've been growing my hair since December, my hair naturally grows really fast, and now i'll start taking biotin to grow even faster...

I planned to wait until December to neglect my hair, but these days i accidentally forgot to comb my hair, it were less than 4 days, and what i saw was like my hair on the 3rd month of my previous set...

Now i decided that... from TODAY i'll consider that i'm neglecting my hair again.

Wish me good vibes for this new set, and thanks to SE, and to all people here in this community, this is a heaven of knowledge and experience, and if it weren't this site, i would never know that dreads can grow naturally.

Peace out!

Silly bar soap question

Dread Products

The bars leather a lot, so be careful, sometimes it feels like there's no leather, but if you look in the mirror, you'll see

Just gently ROLL the bar over your hair 2 times without making too much pression [yes, that's the way i do, and it lather very well], than gently massage your scalp where you can for 2 minutes, then rinse it a lot.

I take it and i love it!

My hair shrinks a lot, but now biotin is compensing the shrinking making my hair grow more and more.

I take from 5000 to 12.500mcg daly, my hair is a lot stronger than before.

I love it so much that i have bought biotin for 3 years!

How often do you separate baby dreads?

Dread Maintenance

ever had to separate EVERYDAY. Today i still separate most of my formed dreads everyday, and the baby ones too.

Hello

Introduce Yourself

they send their products worlwide... and you can get some shampoos from them too [they are pretty good and really help your hair to lock up faster]

Can i get the wax be gone in the uk?

Diego F. said:

you should remove the wax [if you used even once you have to remove it because it never washes out of hair with washing], then stop messing with your dreads... it will take a time, but they will repair itself alone.

ESSENTIAL OIL QUESTION

Dread Maintenance

i think that you don't need to wash it out.

i used essential oils for a long time... after washing my hair i rinsed with a mix of water and essential oil drops and let it on my hair until it dried out naturally.

I never had problem with buildup.
