I regret moving (I just need to vent).

General Talk

Yup so much truth and good advice on here. It sucks to leave old friends behind. I guess real community its important not just being with folk that your comfortable with but people you can really do life with, have common interest with. (I totally know how you feel. All my old friends from back home keep begging at us to come home.) but something just doesnt feel right. You need to be where your soul and your family are happy, and where you and your family can life the life your dream of. Wherever that is, if you have the opportuniy then take it. Life is to short to live on if onlys or what ifs. Much easier said than done i know. Keep us posted, we all here for ya x

Confusion and then next chapter of this journey.

General Talk

Colours you dreads are amazing!! We started dreading arpundaround the same time i think. I combed out tjat set in December. And just started dreading again like 2days ago. Only thing I will say from my personal experience is I missemissed thsooooooo bad when they were gpnwone. Good thing is the journey continues whetherwheth you grow or comb as you may rock normal hair for a bit bitut then dread again in the future!

Curly dreads timeline

Member Journals and Timelines

I love this timeline so much so i think we started dreading at the same time. I backcombed my first set and combed out a few months ago after two years :( But maybe it was all meant to be as im inspired to start over naturally now. I've been messing about with one or two TnR but not happy some brushed all my hair. washed it and ready for the natural journey.... Finally! Thanks for the curly dread inspiration!!

Dread A&E Needed!! Im halfway through combing my locks!! HELP!!

Help! Save My Dreads

So thankyou all for comments so far! So I carried on combing! Its been a very odd transition to life without dreads! But really meaningful! So 1stly It took 4 days of around 20-12 hours a day of combing. I did loose ALOT of hair but thats ok as it was almost 2 years of dreaded hair up there! My hair now is OK although super thin!

So i've settled into my new job! ITs going great! and tonight I decided to try a experiement to not wash my hair and see how I feel! I showered and feel good and not washed my hair!

So I think I may in the not to distant begin dreading again, once my hair has grown and little and I've gotten in back into good shape after the dreaded comb out! If/ when I do dread again. I may go natural or twist and rip! I saw another member of staff with awesome dreads piled up on his head like a crown of glory above his scrubs!! i wanted to stop him right there and be like howwwwwwww!! I literally feel goss withouht washing after everyshift, BUT I dont wanna be such a germ phobe. after all dreads are about letting go, discovereing freedom and developing patience and trusting the process right?

Dread A&E Needed!! Im halfway through combing my locks!! HELP!!

Help! Save My Dreads

So guys... 1st to set the scene of where i have been for the past few days.

Reason for combing: Purely practical, Im starting working at a hospital as a nursing assistant. Working days, nights weekends ect. Full time hours. So I was thinking as from previous health care work that the 1st thing I wanted to do after finishing work is to have a shower and wash my hair. So finishing a night shift washing dreads that take 3-4+ hrs to dry even if a hair dryer is used. aint gonna be good for me or them when I wanna come home and sleep. So i started the comb out!!

3 days ago. Its taking a loooong time. I have 48 dreads. I still have 30 left. and Ive hit the WHAT THE HECK HAVE A DONE!!! I LOOOVE MY DREADS!! I have combed out the whole back bottom section and part of the side and the front few dreads but I still have a far chunk of them left :D

What to do now!.... I feel like a need to sort the practical issue of drying my dreads quickly and effectively after a shift (any ideas friends?)

I may have already screwed the remaining guys up as I have had a nourishing and conditioning hair treatment left in my dreads for the past 3 days to help comb out.

Maybe I just rock this hair hair half dread look for a while!

Nusing job with dreads?

dreads jobs employment issues

Its great to see so many medical folk with dreads. :) so i just got a job in cardiac ward as a health care assistant. I have never thought about getting rid of dreads but ive been contemplating it recently. Do you guys find infection control with dreads an issue in that we need to wash our dreads a whole lot more like after most shifts and as it takes long to dry and lets face it whn you get of nights the last thing you wanna o is sit with a hair dryer for like a hour trying to dry them. How do you guys deal with this? If anyone can help with a answer id be sooooo thankful as will my dreads. Ive slept on it and im not running to buy a comb just yet now!

Introduce Yourself

i have a couple like this and I have curly hair too. Im going with everyone else on leaving it and seeing what happens. I'm sure it'll straighten out eventually or leave and awesome bump or loop as nod to my original curlyness. :)

Animal Lover

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

There are certainley some very good points raised here! Many of them I agree with specisim makes sense to me I've never heard of it before. Certainly social culture and religious practice must come into this as well for example not eating pork, eating kosher meat or the addiction to fast food meat based products.

Eating meat is a strange contradiction. But a habit that has been passed down through generations and cultures for millennia. Personally for me I stopped eating meat as soon did my husband as we felt we we're eating far too much of it. When you hear lines like "It's not a meal unless it's got meat in it"

Environmental fragility has to challenge this idea. Fact is as I know we all know humanity consumes far to much in a a brutual, commercial almost like a world domination type of way massive corporate meat plants, abbotoirs, to value meat and supermarkert consumerism.

And most of us here care very much about the planet, natural environment and the animal kingdom. And Congratulations to you that have the knowledge, dicipline and dedication to be vegan. The planet is surely a better place for it. I'm certainly not going to rule it out and its something I may do in the future. Pescatarian is where im a right now. Its a journey isn't it much like growing dreads. finding yourself, your beliefs, the way to interact with the world and each other, and making new connections. I'm seeing this as a process. To try and look past what is currently a cultural norm and expectation. We have the ability to create a new culture and educate and open peoples eyes as we take our own journey.
