Help!! Nasty sticky roots

Help! Save My Dreads

so i managed to separate my hair successfully thanks to SEs advice on my last post but when i was separating and pulling the different roots apart i found they were really sticky inside :(!!!! Ive looked in the mirror and my boyfriend has had a look aswell and there is nothing visible in my roots at all its just when you touch it with your fingers its just awful like someone has poured honey all over my head its disgusting but it doesn't have a smell at all so I'm really confused to what it might be.

its been a week since i discovered these really sticky roots and I've rinsed my hair a lot trying to get it out but nothings worked. I have ordered the Neutrogena anti residue shampoo thinking it might be residue but the expected delivery day isn't until the 11th of january which is far to long away and id like to know if there is anything i can do/use in the meantime to help get rid of it now.

Since i live in the north of england i have very hard water and have already tried the baking soda wash when i first started my journey but it just didnt wash out and i had no luck with it at all so unfortunately I'm unable to use that method. The shampoo I've been using for about 6 months is the dreadlock nag champa shampoo which isn't getting rid of the problem ither

if anyone has any idea what this could be or how i could get rid of it your help would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you

dip fingers in olive oil work it into the connected areS .pull

always seperate when wet the hairs rip easier then

if et and oily dont work get help to do a minor surgery do so very carefully like a brain surgeon

pull the dreads apart putting tension on the connected hairs and exposing them then carefully with tiny tiny scissors or an exacto blade or razorblade slice or snip a few hairs at a time till u release enough to alow them to rjp

Separation help

Dread Maintenance

i haven't been 100% with my separation and have only just really learnt how to do it properly of watching Baba Fats separation video. The problem is the underneath layer of my hair especially round the back is just awful. it feels like they are all connected by the roots but its not just by a little bit its like a good 5/6cm of root connection. All my other knots and things are separating perfectly and i can hear them rip when i do it but with these few underneath I'm pulling and there not ripping or budging or anything.

I know its my own fault for not separating them for like the first 5months but its starting to get a bit uncomftorable and stiff, especially when i wear them up.

Any advice on what to do?

Help! Save My Dreads

I've uploaded this picture so you can see i didnt feel like i had to highlight it in anyway as it is so obvious :( please help

Jojoba Oil? best way to use

Dread Maintenance

I have two sets of "dreads" all my upper layer of hair is natural/neglect while my hair underneath was crocheted. There only 6 months old and I've never crocheted them apart from the day i done them so there basically like 6 month crochet recovery. Lately they have been getting a bit dry and are still a bit stiff so i finally bought some jojoba oil but I'm unsure of how to apply it seen as though its only the bottom layer. I would apply it to my whole head but since my neglect dreads are doing amazingly and arnt dry or stiff i didnt know wether applying jojoba oil would be a good idea or not.I would love the dreads underneath to be lovely and flowey and soft like my neglect ones :)

Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated

ooh the body of my dreads are fine its just when you get up to the roots it just goes crazy haha! thanks for the reassurance i no longer have to worry about my hair growing into one large dread haha!

Your locks should always be in a state of constant tangle at the roots. You only want to separate when the body of the locks start to eat each other. If it's just at the roots, it's fine

joined roots

Help! Save My Dreads

my dreads are 4.5months old and i love them but at the roots it all seems like their joined together! i do separate after every wash and some are fine and go right to the roots all separated but then some (especially at the bottom on the back and round the sides a bit) seem like their all joined together at the roots. Some just have a little group of hairs going into another root and some just feel like their all joined together. I do separate after every wash but they just dont seem to be coming apart and I'm scared when my hair grows it will all just be one huge dread! (i know that won't happen but its still a scary thought) none of the roots have actually dreaded yet so when they eventually do dread will it just sort itself out?

have i done the right thing?

Dreading Methods

I've had my dreads for 4 months now started with backcomb and crochet and never croched them again. because i done them myself the sectioning at the back was all messed up and i had some super huge dreads which where great but very scalpy, but after a while i started to get really self conscious and I've asked on here before if it was a good idea to split them or whatever but i decided to leave them be.

I have just took out about 10 dreads including all of my big ones. I have left in about 20 small ones which are getting along brilliant and looping and i just love them but i want to leave the dreads that I've combed out to go natural like just leave the hair be so it can form its own dreads.

my head feels so much better already and i wish i done it when i first started feeling like this like in the first month or something but have i done the right thing? I'm scared that all of my loose hair (there is a lot of it) will just stay like this or just get sucked into my other smaller dreads so il end up with huge ones again.

Also i dont know much about natural dreads so do i just leave this hair be and not touch it apart from when washing?

Any help or advice greatly appreciated :)

swimming in chlorine?

Dread Maintenance

Thanks so much for sharing you experience.it would be so much easier if i was swimming in the sea but unfortunately I'm not and have no idea what chlorine could do to my hair :( ill just make sure i rinse it properly afterwards.

great advice about tossing them over the pillow on a night though! :D
