Just beginning.....

General Talk

Hi Elizabeth. Those are fat, really fat. Once they mature they will be huge and take two or three days to dry. If you are prepared for that, then go for the fat dreads. Otherwise, separate them into smaller sections, nothing larger than 1 inch. When dreads are starting, the roots are loose 3-4 inches, once they are mature, the roots are still loose, about 1 inch. This is so the section can move freely, not putting stress on the scalp. Dreads take 1-2 years to mature, whether it be neglect, twist & rip or back combing, so yeah, loose hairs will still be there. If you plan to do the rest of your hair in dreads, do it a favor and let it section naturally first. If you force it into sections, you might find some dividing at the root area because that is not where the hair wanted to go. It only takes a couple of weeks for sections to form, if any are too large, just divide them.....peace

Finally a Dreadhead!

Introduce Yourself

Attraction is in the eye of the beholder. I have an attraction to inner beauty, to a persons soul and personality and happiness. If a person has a beautiful soul, they radiate and make others happy, make me happy...and I want to be surrounded by those people only. Everyone with a beautiful soul are the most beautiful people on the face of the earth!

Dread starting to split

General Talk

Hi Ryan. No worries, as the dread grows, it will form together. Hair is normally loose at the scalp, even on mature dreads for about an inch, once it passes that point the section dreads. What might have happened is that you formed your sections when you did the twist & rip method instead of letting it section naturally for a couple of weeks, so that is the hair separating where it would have wanted to go. But yes, no need to do anything about it, just let it be and it will take care of itself.....peace

Hair type?!?!?

Introduce Yourself

Sure it makes a difference, but only with TIME. No matter the hair type, all you need is patience and it will dread....People with thin fine hair should grow thin dreads, it fills out beauifullyr. People with very silky hair may find it takes longer, but if a sea salt spray is used, that helps a lot. I did not have "ratty/knotty" hair when I started and I was able to dread, I had thick, long straight hair. .....peace

What else determines the time length? water type, frequency of washing, oily hair, hair length, habits like finger combing, wearing hats, tying up dreads, .....and so on

Combed them out.... :(

General Talk

Hormones get the best of us gals, that's or sure.....

If you do grow them again, next time you get emotional, do what others do and come on here, go on chat and vent, write out your words and get it out of your system. This may help you next time.....peace

Combed them out.... :(

General Talk

I bet you are sad. I know you started by accident, but going fully neglect if not for everyone. If ever you want to try dreading again, try a different method like twist & rip (the second best)...or back combing (the third best method).

Right now your hair is flat & limp due to the conditioners. Don't worry, you will get your natural bounce back after a couple of washes, just skip the conditioner for a couple of weeks. All the best to you Healamongthe trees.....peace

third times the charm

General Talk

Good luck with this journey. I don't know why you felt like you were cheating though. I did the T&R method, Kept them product free and went through all the crazy stages. I had shrinkage. loops, inner growth and all the rest that comes with neglect and don't feel like I cheated, but maybe that is just me.

I hope that your new set is everything you dreamed they will be..this time hang in there longer, it can take up to 2 years to get the dreads you envision......peace
